Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc? (Vol 2)
Discussion
The new one at Strakka Racing is also quite good (ignore the clickbait F50 title).
Much better showing recently - goes to show that he doesn’t really need TGE. I actually hope he manages to get a drive with a team somewhere, even if he only guests for a couple of races and he gets a couple of vids out of it, as the behind the scenes content was genuinely interesting I thought.

On the Shell and bloggers subject, I noticed in some Insta photos from our favourite vloggers - if they full up at a fuel station that is not shell and take some photos, they blur the logos. Check out Archie Hamiltons latest posts to see what I mean!
Why didn't he just take a photo of his car where there wasn't a logo for a rival filling station?!?! Britain isn't short of space for taking pics!InitialDave said:

Those are the days of Gumball when I was a fan!
That Youtube channel has some great vids about cannonball run and long distance races
Stradman’s latest video is interesting. ‘He’ is giving away his recently acquired tuned 570S at Xmas.
Now obviously it’s going to be funded by this new company he’s part of - SuperCarMafia - and they’ll make a mint off the merch sales required to get entries, but there are a lot of butthurt people in his comments already.
I dare say he’ll smash through a million subs off the back of this though.
Oh and it’s US only. But in some states thevwinner could be hit with a 40% income tax bill on that $180k McLaren. So Makes and Models will offer them trade value for the car and then sell it again. Win win.

The picture quality isn't very good (auto focus fail), but it's the thought that counts...

Most of the young vloggers are doing the same thing- renting (either weekend rental ore short term lease) and driving cars (a little). They then pay people to modify them- and you watch them watching someone else work on a car wrapping it, or putting an. exhaust on....
however, some young guys are doing really good videos, working on their own cars.
For the UK:

For the US:

this guy at least works on his own Aston Martin, Gallardo, AMG SL55 (manual gearbox conversion!) etc.
there's others like ChrisFix etc.
this is interesting stuff. Perhaps because I also work on my own Lambo:

It seems the majority of younger kids think paying people or (getting sponsors) to cosmetically tart up there car is interesting... to me this is like watching my wife go to a designer clothes boutique and shop.... no wait, apparently there are vLoggers and even reality tv shows doing that....

Followed a few of these guys both on YouTube and Instagram, but the final straw for me was Shmee draining oil from a car in a heavily sponsored Mobil set up.
One step too far for me I’m afraid , lost a follower for good , not that it’ll make any difference to him.
Slippery slope downwards from here in imho.

The truth is that some haven't had the exposure to working on cars, to really learn about them - it's daunting at the outset I expect, and some either don't know or don't want to learn about this stuff. There's a case to be made that undertaking an oil change on a car these days, is something that young car enthusiasts don't dare venture into (I've been slowly teaching SWMBO about car maintenance and how stuff works!). This year there's been a big increase in the visible paid promotion content, across the board - and many vloggers transitioning from covering their cars, to becoming motoring journos. One step too far for me I’m afraid , lost a follower for good , not that it’ll make any difference to him.

On a larger scale, there's a chance that YouTube's car scene on the 'owned vehicle' front could become little more than cars getting wrapped, having an upgraded exhaust system fitted, and then some road trips before being sold. There's been some quite good PPF videos recently that go into the detail of what that's all about.
I'd love to see more interest in the race car stuff I upload, but it just isn't to peoples tastes (at a wider level), so will likely always have a small viewership. Young folk (I'm 33 but that's not deemed young now, bugger!) are more interested in how to buy a working, shouty, overt car, than building one. That's just the culture at the moment. It might change, and audiences might want to learn about spannering, but I just cant see it. Personally I find the video creation process interesting, so I keep plodding along with it, documenting the build where I can.
Jon's Tyre Reviews channel is one that goes from strength to strength, and due to the nature of the content, doesn't get ring fenced into a demographic - so hopefully it'll carry on growing. Great content, well presented, informative and entertaining.

What was it about the content or the sponsorship that you didn't like? One step too far for me I’m afraid , lost a follower for good , not that it’ll make any difference to him.

I'm all for it if it means it gives him more money and exposure to buy more cars and the like.
I'd agree it wasn't the most scintillating content, but it was a good enough watch and I found fairly informative. Yes it was using Mobil1 products and a lot of branding... but so what.. I don't feel it warrants the flounce.
Without this type of sponsorship, the channels can't grow and get better. Simple.
