It might seem grating to you but the formula works. The amount of people calling out Shmee150's name as he drove his GT to one of the events at Monterey show how popular he is, he is doing stuff to keep his audience entertained, regardless of age range. They must all have a similar format of see car - buy car - modify car - sell car to keep things fresh, even HubNut will swap something in his garage (or let it pack up or get scrapped biggrin ) at some point.

It's not the visiting dealerships which winds me up with some Youtubers, it's the whole deliberate wasting of at least 5 minutes looking at other cars in the garage (usually Redline for at least 3 of them rolleyes ) , but I guess it's the anticipation for new or younger viewers of the channel. It's even sadder being one of those who go along to be in the crowd around a covered GT3 RS / Pista / G Wagon / Range Rover SVR waiting for the cover to be taken off... cue upbeat music as camera pans around car, and after a while car edges out onto the forecourt (you never see them actually drive the car home, though biggrin )

When they all go for the same (leftfield choice) car, it's a bit jarring, ie the Jimny... you will rarely see the Jimny driven, either rented out, the equivalent of subletting a Council flat... or disappear into vast collection rarely to be seen again. I did always wonder how Archie Hamilton and TGE would share ownership of the Jimny when appearing to buy one together.

Remove before Race (Mr AMG) has good content, his trip to AMG to see his car being built, showing the various processes such as marrying the car chassis to the engine and drivetrain, and he does less fawning over the cars than some.

I usually just see what Youtuber content appeals to me at that present moment. Some do have influence, it's helped me up my game car wise, as for merch, I admit buying a Hello One and All T shirt when I first started watching STG... rolleyes I am less inclined to buy a Vincero watch though, or "merch" from LLF.

The key is not to get too wrapped up in these vlogs, the format won't change.
The key to me is now not to watch them

The car guys/STG are a couple of the few I can tolerate now, the rest I am either sick looking at or don’t interest me. Clearly I am in the minority but I much prefer the EVO videos
True... I watched TGE talk about nothing in particular with his brother JE who had collected a car from Redline (Bentley Bentayga) for a customer of theirs in London... which seemed to be enough material for a "Brother's got a Purple Bentayga!", laying the groundwork for more churning of picking that or a Vogue...

The format won't change, but the cars do... so watching the moneyed tts swan about with cars is interesting enough, depending on the location and vehicle biggrin

Totally get what you mean. For the most part it's just endless repeats of the same thing. I do like Shmees videos simply because he goes into details of history, stats etc and seems to do a fair bit of research into whatever he's talking about which i appreciate. However, that can also become tedious sometimes depending on mood or lack of interest in the subject matter. STG's drive the world provides a good balance or Misha from Apex Nurburgring. I think with social media, it's just too much overload of content that one then needs to consciously control otherwise i guess one suffers burnout from the constant stream. Gone are the days of waiting till the weekend for Topgear or Fifth Gear for that next fix of car entertainment. It's all at the finger tips now and quite distracting.
There's only really Shmee and HubNut who I'll regularly watch nowadays. Despite being at polar opposites of the automotive world, they're quite similar. In that they'll both tell you everything you'll want to know about whatever car they're in.

We're at saturation and over-exposure point now. The tide will turn, one way or another. Some serious questioning is being done over the utter crap and repetitive one-upmanship that has been tolerated for far too long. We'll never get these minutes back so choose very wisely, those in the know and with an ounce of common-sense-reality-check in them know the score and are able to turn off 'lemming' mode and engage 'repel-influencer (ffs)' status.

I do like some of their content, but some is obvious clickbait or shifting watches worth £200 at best, or deals with video editing tutorials... for some, it's a good revenue stream, but I am going to start to unsubscribe from a lot of them... you can waste too much time watching them. The first half of a lot of the videos is waffle.

I watched one video where TGE and Archie Hamilton drove around Sloane Street trying to draw as much attention as possible to the Lamborghini they were in... it was funny that most pedestrians couldn't care less... one TGE video I stumbled across from a while ago was just him on an island in the Maldives showing us the holiday apartment in a "look how successful I am" way, with no cars whatsoever rolleyes

Everyone is an 'influencer' now, the car companies know how they can shift less popular cars via such Youtubers. Still figuring out how on earth a Suzuki Jimny became so popular that the two best known Youtubers just had to have one...

SOL is really suffering to keep up, the motorbike lessons seem to be a high point...

Archie's latest vid where he's in the GT3RS at Goodwood "I Nearly Crashed My GT3RS On A Lethal Track!"

Thankfully someone linked to the time of the incident in the comments, it was 13min odd in a 18min vid.

Click bait at it's finest lad.

3 black flags for noise and thats his day over.

I quite enjoy the POV footage and driving tuition from Archie Hamilton only second to Tony ribbing Archie at any perceived and vulnerable opportunity. The young ex racer being humbled by the older experienced business owner will never get old.

Shmee, TGE and JWW also provide plenty of good content, sometimes they can be hit and miss personally, but ultimately they cannot be expected to hit the mark for all tastes with the amount of content they put out in a consistent manner.

I actually hope more people produce new content, so I don't have to re-watch Chris Harris' Francois Delecour GT3 RS video yet again.

That video has, perhaps, my favourite ever Youtube moment, when Delecour sticks out his pinky finger when he complains that Porsches 'are bought by people from Paris'.

It’s the Evo thatch he turns up in that stuck with me, because we all have a set of WRC gravel spec tyres laying around..

This and the ragging an F40 and an F50 are a couple of his best. I enjoyed his E28 M5 video too, but that's because I'm an unashamed old BMW fanboi.

For those thinking the tide will turn soon, it already has. If you use some of the tools available to anyone you can see which channels are already in decline.

Let's not forget a large number of channels which also ceased to be already, for a variety of reasons. Life on Unleaded, Boosted and of course the delightful Gaskings

Is it actually clickbait if he actually did have an off though? Fair play it doesn't look like a particularly bad moment but he did nearly crash I suppose

It was all "could have's"... if there was a wall where the car allegedly hit a bump and skipped off he could have been in trouble but there was an escape road... Any track is lethal if you're going way too fast... There were plenty of other cars on that 'lethal' Goodwood track rolleyes

I'm going to start to unsubscribe from a lot of these now... the clickbait and merchandising is too much.

I see lots of MCM recommendations. I hope those that are fans have found the Skid Factory. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFUBt5_cGJpt58XBI... I think it's even better than MCM.

I don't think you can include Gaskings in that list - he got banged up for totally unrelated pension fraud!

I wonder if we’re missing the point here

I would never rely on an influencer review to buy a £200k car. I’d go for a proper journalist review

But I don’t think many influencers are selling a technical review of a car. They’re offering a glimpse into lifestyle-how the car might be used. And presumably that’s worth as much to a manufacturer as a review?

When I watch many car adverts on TV they do exactly the same thing -“hey you can go surfing in this new Renault”. They don’t tell me it’s got a
Limited slip differential.

So STG driving a car down to Monaco is probably perfect for BMW/AUDI etc isn’t it?

Edited to remove repeated sentence
