In addition, a lot of social media influencers give free exposure to brands in the hope of a hook up in the future, some rather blatantly
Nail - head.

Sam does sometimes get paid by shell, which is disclosed and very obvious in the videos. The other times he's featuring shell / starbucks / shampoo products it's basically the influencer way of brown nosing in hope of future deals.

We all gotta eat.

Nearly as good as Floyd Mayweather promoting hair growth products

As for the debate around shell, if you're a petrol head you'd know Vpower was the best fuel on the market in the UK anyway aside from race fuel, so he's not only doing a good turn for shell but also the 'influenced' as they will use decent fuel in their cars.

If he gets something out of it who cares in all honesty, I never understand why folk get upset over someone doing a paid promotion. Unless you walk around with blinkers on you should be able to see it for what it is from the get go, believe it if you wish or go out and experience it for yourself to see if the claims are true.

Interestingly debate.

These instagram models proclaiming XYZ’s product is absolutely amazing and will turn you from a borderline 4 to the solid 8 out of ten really have to let on when that’s a paid promotion.
And will the Instahgram "models" start having to TagTheSponsor for all of those beach and yacht pictures?!!

99% of the time I fill up with Shell and I only drive a Volvo diesel. It’s my preference; I prefer Starbucks to Costa. If I were making videos, Starbucks and Shell would feature in my videos quite often.

That doesn’t mean that some secret agreement would have been arranged. It’s just what I like and I would imagine that these brands are what Sam prefers.

I’m guessing you’ve not the seen the videos that I’m referring to. Yes you might use Shell all the time. But if you were making a car video would you stop your flow to focus on the Shell garage sign and then linger on the petrol pump VPower thing?

Anyway we’re slightly digressing here, I was just throwing that is an example. The broader is more that there will need to be fuller disclosure in future by the looks of it. As I said earlier it makes no odds to me, I’m not easily ‘influenced’, can see a biased review for what it is.

But perhaps it’s a good thing for the more impressionable (thinking my kids) for it to be clear when someone is being paid to say they like a particular product

Good insight from MrJWW in his Q&A about gumball3000 - basic costs being £60k to enter this year per car and that “every entrant this year is a millionaire” (13 mins in for those that want to hear it direct - https://youtu.be/rwvBsuIbf1U).
Very honest and open about the costs incurred. Doesn't float my boat personally, although I'm more a sixty quid tennis baller than sixty grand gum. One thing I did note was how rough David Hasslehoff was looking. He looked nearer 86 than 66!

But that doesn't include flying your car home again.

Take that into account and fuel, getting your car prepared (and wrapped as most seem to be and that is at least £85K.

Doesn't float my boat either as the driving looks pretty dull. Big mileages means motorways which are pretty dull wherever they are and would be heavily policed on Gumball.

I'd rather do a trip with mates on some proper driving roads.

I'd have to be paid to do Gumball, it seems to be a magnet for grade A helmets! Surprising there isn't a 4th plane needed to transport the egos about too.

I'm sure there are a few decent people on the trip, UK 'tubers included.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that but imo even watching some of Tim's content there were plenty of bellends on show.

But if that's what gets you going and you're raising money in the process whilst not hurting others (thinkng back to 8 - 10 years ago) well why not.

On the Shell and bloggers subject, I noticed in some Insta photos from our favourite vloggers - if they full up at a fuel station that is not shell and take some photos, they blur the logos. Check out Archie Hamiltons latest posts to see what I mean!

Not jealous at all! I used to think Gumball was something quite cool/ fun to do many years ago back in the early 2000's, my opinion of it has changed a fair bit since then!

skint.. well I can't afford to enter Gumball! Damn

That was an odd piece of tv, jumping around all over in subject matter and time. And did the BBC really allow the bit where they got £10k of cash out to bet who would be quickest racing the quarter mile at Santa Pod?!?

I didn't watch it. As soon as I saw who it was I switched over to something less irritating.

I really dont like the normal videos he does, but have watched a few from time to time because of links on here. As a result it came up on my Recommended (the racing career one) and watched it

I really didn't twig that he was the Hamilton in the Corvette, fair play to him. He's done a lot in his career and the video was genuinely interesting - more of the same please and stop with the idiotic vlogs
