Although, with Kickstarter (unless they've changed their T&Cs) you only get the money if you reach the goal amount.

(which again makes Patreon a better option as you can get people to sign up throughout the year).

STG is driving around the world next year, and is trying to raise £25k for the trip.

I can't think of another YouTuber that I'd rather watch do this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QdsTLWxS_Y

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/seenthroughgl...
So here's the rewards:

For a donation of £2,500 you can join him for the day...... well???? get your wallet out then lads! wobble

I have no doubt he will raise the money. A fool and their money and all that. It’s mental.

Fair play Tim!

Picks up AMG GTR from Renntech, (with 762bhp) drives straight to a mildly damp Nurburgring for a lap for a blat.

That sounds insane and picks up so well. Brave pills indeed to get it a bit twitchy, hope that was as much fun to do as it was to watch!

He is easily going to hit 25k looking at how fast its ramping up he will pass 5k in the next couple of hours.

A lap of the ring plus 175mph on the way home. Right choice of home, shmee!

I'm one of those "fools" who has donated to STG (£1). I regularly watch his content and enjoy his podcast, so for me donating a quid for a years worth of free content is well worth it. It's no different to any of the other youtubers who, for years, have been requesting donations on Patreon to help subsidise content production (Including Pistonheads golden child, Chris Harris).

I think it's good that viewers can be somewhat involved with the trip. Surely £25k is nothing to a major travel company (or any big company) in exchange for 12 months worth of constant promo to nearly 400,000 people. However as a viewer, nobody wants to watch 12 months worth of sponsored videos. People would lose interest and views would decline. Sam knows this I think.

Problem is imho he does not see what he is asking for. The F1 drive he did was 30,000 euros to me and you. 25k is a lot of money and it's all being spent on himself. We know he does not need the money. So why do it. It's just vulgar imho. There is no challenge with what he is doing. It's just for content and to be different to everyone else. He has already said he will ship the car and then fly in to drive it.

I think the biggest travesty of all of this is that Sam is stil only on 380,000 subs. Similar to MrJWW. They quality of content they put out is fantastic, they really do deserve to be far higher than that.

If you want to head off on an around the world trip, making videos from your hotel suite etc etc, having sold your Porsche and put your Ferrari in storage, then maybe asking other people to help fund it is just a bit much? I know Sam said this isn’t him going on a “round the world jolly” because of what’s involved with filming, editing etc, but if it’s that bad don’t do it! Find a regular job like us mere mortals and save up instead. Obviously just my opinion and maybe it’s an age thing? Maybe there are subscribers who really think they’ll “be a part of something” by throwing a few quid at some bloke on the internet, shouting YOLO and daydreaming about someone, someday footing the bill for them to drive a super car to foreign climes? In which case more power to you!

Anyway, I’m sat by the pool here in Spain, the M3 is tucked up awaiting my return and I’m thinking of doing a trackday. If you want to chip in and pay for it, I’ll upload the video and you can “be a part of it”! A few quid for fuel would be great too please! smile

What’s happened with the “becoming a pro drifter” for Paul Wallace? Wasn’t there also something about running a more attainable type sportscar too?

Still waiting on seeing the Defender content from weirdly beardly too! Maybe something on a Deliverance theme with AH tied to a tree? smile

I think there's a fundamental difference between offering Patreon subscriptions and running a Kickstarter campaign, even if the end result is that we viewers pay the same £x for 'exclusive' content.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what car he uses for the project. It needs to be something leftfield otherwise it will again seem like it's a 'rich bloke on holiday' rather than an 'around the world adventure'. (eg. Our comrade from this site who drove the TVR to South America, or the chaps who broke the Cape Town to London record in a Fiat Panda)

Yeah London to Cape Town would be a massive challenge, especially in 10 days. Even in 20 days it would be a big ask.
Santiago to Anchorage would be amazing too, but I don't think you could do it direct due to border issues. Probably have to skip the Gulf of Mexico.
I would also throw in Brisbane to Perth (would be very boring though), in <5 days would be a nice challenge.

He's said on Twitter the road trip will cost £150,000 and he's only got his begging bowl out for a fraction of it. Surely he could do it for a lot less than that?

£5,000 of donations already!

Yeah, but first class flights and penthouse suites aren't cheap.
