We don’t disagree on how insurance can work. My point and I’m sure you agree, the policy holder doesn’t get to dictate a value..500k on top. An insurance policy is a policy designed to put you in the same position before the loss.
Not quite right

The point with agreed value insurance is exactly that- the policyholder insures the car for an agreed value that can be a long long way above list. It’s standard practice with Classic Cars and becoming more usual for Supercars where some of them go up in value.

Normally there has to be some basis for the valuation but it’s a very loose process. When I had my DB5 on an agreed value policy it involved getting a dealer to write a small note saying “yes we think it’s worth X”. That figure was often higher than cars available in the market (“they’re not as good as mine!”). So if Salomondrin paid USD500k over list (and he was in the UK) he’d have no trouble insuring at that.

Of course it’s not all upside. The insurance company charges more in proportion to the agreed value. And if you try to do an agreed that the insurance company thinks is too low they will also object (they want you to pay a high premium, after all most accidents don’t involve a write-off, the cost of repairing a £900k Senna is presumably the same as one insured for £1.2m).

Maybe lay off that wacky backy a bit Alejandro. But oh no, you can’t because you’re launching another new tax writeoff, sorry business selling legal weed, which just so happened to be stickered up all over the Senna that went up, giving it massive exposure for people wondering what it was.

Not just me thinking this then....

I bet your right. I wondered what all that crap graphics were on the Senna. I didn't know about his pot business. This guys is in deep dodo now I would bet. It's one thing to file suit angainst some kid like effspot with a YouTube channel. It's a whole other to go up against a corporation like Mclaren, it that is what he plans on doing.

Most of Salomondrin's hypercars have been tax write-offs as promotional vehicles. One 918 had some candle business he co-owned on it and the other had Cupgang stickers all over it.

I don't think the guy is dumb enough to try insurance fraud, especially with such a big following, so I think the fire is legit. But he is 100% going to sue McLaren hence the selling of his supercars and 'loss of income' claims. He did say in his video that he's fine with cars where he can see the engine, it's just the mid-engined ones that he's scared of now, but the AMG GT-R is one of the ones going, strange, and probably a decent indicator that it's a show.

Another thing he's likely doing now is guaranteeing that he won't get limited run cars from any manufacturer at all now. Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren and Bugatti all told him no (hence the childish outbursts against each brand in various videos) but now I don't think anyone will want to be associated with him.

I'm sure the fire is legit too. But really sad if he sue's for PTSD or something like that, that's just wrong. There is no physical injury and if insurance pays for the car, that's all anyone can expect. There are legitimate reasons for PTSD, this is not one of them, this is just some A hole with a get rich scheme. He must think this whole charade is setting up a good PTSD defense, instead it's making him look like an idiot. The best thing for him would be to lose and pay Mclaren's legal fees, this guy needs to learn a lesson the hard way. IMO only.

There was a discussion on a FB group I follow about Tim getting a limited edition Lambo. A few people felt his Senna/Ford GT would get eclipsed if he got a SVJ. Do you guys think Tim would get more views if he got say a SVJ compared to the views he would get for his Senna and Ford GT content?

Personally, no. The reason for that is that although the SVJ is a very exciting car, it's based on a model that launched 8 years ago; at Geneva in 2011 and everything to do with the Aventador in general has more-or-less been done to death. I would expect buying an early Aventador and putting a Liberty Walk kit on it would do better if this was all for pure views.

Although it feels to have taken a while for the Ford GT to arrive, that's also helped by having a massively extended and accidental hype period - as it happens mine is the very final European delivery for a GT before the next round starts in 2020. So despite the audience loving to scream that they aren't interested in the car, the viewing numbers suggest otherwise.

The Senna is of course a particular buzz word at the moment; it's brand new, we're within 6 months of the first deliveries and it's the first car in my garage of that level so there's huge interest around it. I don't see an SVJ touching that, particularly not when you start to see them in the hands of a number of YouTubers in the not too distant future.

Absolutely. I think the Lamborghini brand is more popular than Ford or McLaren.

Highly doubt Tim is a Lamborghini man though looking at his garage and previous cars. And I highly doubt Lamborghini would give him an allocation as he isn’t a previous customer.

Not to tell you how to do your job or anything, but couldn't that have been summed up in a 13min video with 3 ad breaks...? hehe

He's still doing podcasts, he's still calling out "desperate YT'bers" using his misfortunes to gain viewers for their channels. This does not sound like a guy going through PTSD. He's also treading very carefully and not bashing Mclaren or the Senna most likely because his lawyer(s) are advising him to keep his mouth shut. First attempt will be trying to settle out of court, if that doesn't work he'll pull the PTSD and impact on his businesses card to milk money.

Surprisingly if this does end in court it'll be a jury trail and it won't be clear cut or one sided as many people think it will be. Yes his car blew up but the burden of proof is on him to prove that the fire started because of a defect with the Senna. For example, lawyers for Mclaren can claim he overfilled his gas tank and left over fuel caught on fire or he was revving the engine on this car beyond the recommended rpm's the factory states in the manual and the engine got so hot that he caused a fire. There's tons of stuff lawyers for Mclaren can use to fight this and make it difficult for the jury to reach a verdict. It'll be very interesting to see what happens because I doubt this will be settled out of court because one way or another Mclaren will have to address the fire or they'll be open to more lawsuits.

Definitely, the Lambo holds far more 'clout' with regular Youtube viewers imo, I haven't watched much of the GT/Senna content, I'm holding out for the track/road trip videos

Tried to watch the topaz video with the GT and the 'here's everything you need to know GT/Senna' and found them impossible to stay focused on compared to the regular Shmee offerings and clicked off them

"WE BOUGHT A SUZUKI JIMNY TOGETHER!!"

Sounds like "we bought our first house together!", "we bought a race-car themed double bed together", '"we're expecting a baby" will be future titles from the bearded one and his grinning sycophant.

They're like Beavis and Butthead.

But lacking the humour.

I thought the video was pretty funny. Especially when they were shouting about Pistonheads.

I might get involved and get a Jimmy for the wife. haha

I havent watched (yet) but why?

I thought it was a Ford GT or maybe that Vantage Tom was sniffing around.

Why would they get a Jimmy other than lack of supply means it won't loose much in the 6 months they'll hold onto it.

If the cars black box was not destroyed in the fire, it will give them a record of how the car was treated in the few days he had it. I believe all cars keep a record of engine RPM's, car speed etc for a certain amount of time.

Not sure, much talked about certainly, but I'm not seeing much positive talk. Most people seem to be seeing straight through it.

That dealer is about two miles from my house. Might put on my Yeezys and go along to the collection day. Chaos, etc.
