On a separate note, this channel looks promising.

Dobbo, you might want to click on a link that was not too much before your post.
Ah yes ok in my haste to ask I didn't see the subtle link Actually looks very interesting. I was watching Top Gear and the Grand Tour this week and found myself thinking, what's the point of shows like this any more? Both shows can have moments of sheer genius, but are largely just not that engaging for me in a youtube world. 5% great 95% meh.
Plus I can never watch Clarkson et al without thinking of Stewart Lee's bit. "He's not even a real hamster"
I'll happily watch those shows, but find they are a bit samey. Also, where they are such huge productions, they are of course planning well in advance. As a result, I find it a bit odd that they are 'testing' cars that we've read about months ago.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. And sorry mods, didn't think there would be an issue with posting a link to a channel on a thread specifically about YouTube channels would be an issue
Anyway, I have had a great response - even a guy from Holland has messaged me offering his collection of Porsches. What a generous community.

There's not, so long as it's not your own as that qualifies as self promotion. Anyway, best of luck with it.
Just watched a couple of Archie Hamilton's vids, including his trackday tuition vid with Tony in the Huracan Performante (superb viewing if you haven't seen it already).
Fascinating fact: Archie Hamilton's grandfather raced in F1 during the late-1940s & early 1950s, and won the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours in a Jaguar C-type. He actually started the race sloshed; the team were initially disqualified and then re-instated at short notice, by which time the drivers had a few too many brandies at the bar...
When the race got under way the team tried to sober Hamilton up by giving him coffee during the pit stops but he refused it, saying it made his arms twitch; instead he was given brandy. The alcohol must have helped when he struck a bird face-first at 130mph and broke his nose. It is wonder how the pair managed to drive at all but more wondrous still is that the pair won. They recorded the first 100mph average speed at Le Mans, winning at a record pace.
Archie's father, Adrian Hamilton, inherited his late father's business and is an affluent classic car dealer. Quite a history. If I was in Archie's shoes I'd have gone down the racing path too and kept the family tradition going.

He did go down that path. Has made videos on it. However also references the expense and lack of sponsorship opportunities and I suspect there is a fine line between sponsors enjoying the possibly reach of a YouTube’r Vs the view that continually saying CHAOS and such likes isn’t on brand.
For sure, that's what i meant; most of us would've done the same in his position and gone racing too like he did.
I can never tell if he's putting on his lack of car knowledge as an 'act' in videos with Tom & Tony. One video he comes across as clued up, the next he struggles to tell if a 458 has a V8 or V10 and comes across as disinterested

It's a great story, but sadly not true.jon- said:
I need some advice, so here's a question for all.
This year I plan to buy a car for track work to make some track day specific videos, such as track day tyre testing, "does a massive wing really make a difference?", suspension setup, tyre pressure tuning etc.
Obvious requirements are RWD, and at least some power. Budget up to around £25k, but the less the better.
Current short list are.
1) £25k S2 Lotus Exige. Pros - it's a lotus exige and will look great on the channel, cons - it's at the top of the budget and limited tyre size choices, can't fit spare wheels in it
2) £12k 987 Porsche Cayman - Pros - it's a cayman so well balanced - cons, it will most likely explode (but savings will offset), it looks pretty dated, can't fit spare wheels in it
3) £12k e92 M3 and strip it - Pros - that V8, well balanced car, can fit a second set of wheels in it, should be reliable, can test 17-20 inch tyres - cons, even stripped you can't get them much under 1,400kgs, I will trash any value in it stripping it
4) £7k SW20 MR2 Turbo - Pros - had one before, wicked fast, reasonable wheel range (16 to 18 inches) - cons - look pretty chavvy
Thoughts? Anything else I've missed?
