Except if you have the bucket seat with wrap around head protection you won’t be allowed to do the public ring sessions.
Exactly what I was going to add too.

Does anybody actually know the reason that Hans devices aren't allowed? I was just trying to do some Googling but haven't found out yet, but may to do with the training of the marshals?

Probably because it limits head movement and therefore visibility, same reason for the no wrap around seats on TF.

I am not quite sure why, but I seem to be addicted to watching these at the moment.. Like you say, their rants are quite funny.. I hear they just film it and then someone just edits the funny bits.. it sort of works..

Nurburgring also doesn't like removable steering wheels. They almost didn't let me in with the Nomad but marshal eventually let me do one lap.

The Ring marshals get sniffy which anything that would be iffy under the strict German TüV tests even if it is legal in the UK. (They especially don't seem to like large spoilers in case you clip a biker with them).

Kudos to Shmee taking the Senna on the Ring.

Didn't realise how expensive they are! (Cheapest on AT is £825,000)

I've just watched that to, I didn't realise just how busy the public days are.

Brave move taking the Senna there, but that's what it's built for, and to be enjoyed.

Indeed tip of the cap to Shmee taking a £1 million motor on touristenfahrt, Ive only taken my Vantage round there on trackdays never on TD! Actually Shmee have you ever considered doing a trackday with one of the higher end cars you have...the DN days I've done are outstanding in terms of organisation, standard of driving and indeed the quality of metal on show. I'm sure you could easily negotiate a free roll given the size of your audience.

If you want a more ‘raw’ experience of one of Tim’s laps have a look at Mischa’s video... https://youtu.be/_nDu5Xn9hWc

Wow. That thing absolutely rips. First person in the world to take a customer spec Senna round the ring, and probably only ever be one of the few who would do it on TF. That film does give a very real view of what that must have felt like. And it sounds like the car had more to give!

Did he say the MPG was 47km per litre? Which converted = 6MPG? biggrin

The European system is litres per 100km, so in this case 47l/100km is about 5mpg. 47km per litre would be something like 2,500km on a tank!

Mind you, the GT has the biggest problem in this regard, 3 laps of the Ring and it's too empty to do a 4th - and it's only 21km a lap.

Yeah, you know what I meant. How many laps would the Senna do on a full tank? Is it more than the GT?

I may have a disdain to 99% of "youtubers" and the bullst that goes with it, but Shmee's enjoyment of his Senna (and actually using it rather than dicking around london) is great to see.

If the Senna hasn't set a lap time yet at the 'ring, what is the consensus of those in the know as to whether it's faster than the GT2RS?

And what are the logistics involved in getting one of the resident drivers into it on a quiet morning and giving it a shot? Would McLaren get the hump if a customer set the record, rather than them doing it themselves?

The Senna is also desperately inefficient but fortunately has a much larger tank. I think it would be 3 laps in the GT, but maybe 5 for the Senna.

The Nurburgring themselves won't any more support lap record attempts that aren't by manufacturers from what I understand, and it's also certainly not that simple because the blistering times you see from the likes of Porsche, Lamborghini et al have an immense amount of preparation into them as opposed to "just turning up".

I personally believe the Senna is so quick, that quite literally it could indeed just arrive and even on a paid track day with other cars could potentially go out and set the record ahead of the GT2 RS MR that did 6:42 - but it then wouldn't be officially recognised. Times have been set by private cars at both Silverstone International and Portimao, that suggest the Senna is a couple of seconds faster per minute than the current record holder...

Thanks! As you can imagine it was an awful lot of fun despite a hiccup in the middle that needed resolving (as mentioned with the sensor on the Senna); but driving the two cars together was quite a moment.

Shmee - your videos are online very quickly! Are you still doing a lot of editing/uploading are you doing yourself? How much time does it take to edit/upload the ring videos, from the last few days?

I do pretty much all of it myself; maybe 1 in 30-50 videos isn't edited by me. I was working away last night to get today's video out from when we parked the cars up at 21:00 until 03:30 bar about 1hr to have dinner. It's like that most nights these days but I still enjoy it so happy to keep on crunching away at it all.
