Quite right too - you may not appeal to all the 16 year olds trying to decide which Bugatti to buy, but I've found your stuff interesting.

I think the only person who could really be called an 'influencer' is Ed Bollian of Vinwiki.

The way he influenced the market of manual LP640's is amazing.

For those who don't know, he owned a manual LP640 in the US. Tried to find out how many were sold to the US from Lamborghini but even they didn't have a record of it. So with the app that he runs made a register of all the cars and found there was a fairly small number. Used his online presence to spread this news and sure enough, the price of manual LP640's shot up and he cashed in.

And the YouTube channel if you don't know it - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCefl-5pmhZmljwZTE...

I like Ed Bolian. I think he's more slippery than a banana skin that's been dipped in grease and given to an MP to hold for a while, but I like him.

I watched all his videos until he started going on about how god had guided him and helped him etc etc

Or something like that.

lotus seem to have decided using supercarblondie to sell the evija is a good idea.

like shmee says - this is the new social media world. i don't think there’s anything to ‘understand’ though (as if cheap reach and engagement are complex concepts) - merely a lot to be disappointed by.

i wonder if manufacturers have caught up with the tech world yet and started to evaluate the tangible value they receive from this kind of exposure, or if they're still just aiming to hit CPM budget targets with some basic ‘sell cars via car influencer’ logic.

Any man willing to drive someone else's pride and joy and honestly comment on all the st bits while the owner is sat next to them is definitely not in the influencer category.

Don't even know how you'd categorise. It's journalism but covering a nice wide range of interesting cars that normal folk could enjoy.

Keep up the good work and enjoy the new Honda.

Just out of interest, how does YouTube know how old your viewers are? I watch and enjoy most of them but don’t recall ever telling anyone how old I am.

Shmee150 channel is just of no interest to me whatsoever. He's been invited to these dealerships so obviously he going to talk favourably about all the cars they have. I mean there's only so many times you can look at a Porsche GT or a Bugatti Veyron they are everywhere in these high end dealerships.

The guy's a tool. He'd stick a logo on his **** if it got him some views. And as for his US 'Grand Tour'.... don't get me started... tour? Formulaic crap - turn up to dealer/collector/fellow tool - look at car - expound positives/assert absolute OCD control over what other person says - exercise jaw - collect praise from 14 yr olds around the world - rinse - repeat.

FFS. Next.

It might seem grating to you but the formula works. The amount of people calling out Shmee150's name as he drove his GT to one of the events at Monterey show how popular he is, he is doing stuff to keep his audience entertained, regardless of age range. They must all have a similar format of see car - buy car - modify car - sell car to keep things fresh, even HubNut will swap something in his garage (or let it pack up or get scrapped biggrin ) at some point.

It's not the visiting dealerships which winds me up with some Youtubers, it's the whole deliberate wasting of at least 5 minutes looking at other cars in the garage (usually Redline for at least 3 of them rolleyes ) , but I guess it's the anticipation for new or younger viewers of the channel. It's even sadder being one of those who go along to be in the crowd around a covered GT3 RS / Pista / G Wagon / Range Rover SVR waiting for the cover to be taken off... cue upbeat music as camera pans around car, and after a while car edges out onto the forecourt (you never see them actually drive the car home, though biggrin )

When they all go for the same (leftfield choice) car, it's a bit jarring, ie the Jimny... you will rarely see the Jimny driven, either rented out, the equivalent of subletting a Council flat... or disappear into vast collection rarely to be seen again. I did always wonder how Archie Hamilton and TGE would share ownership of the Jimny when appearing to buy one together.

Remove before Race (Mr AMG) has good content, his trip to AMG to see his car being built, showing the various processes such as marrying the car chassis to the engine and drivetrain, and he does less fawning over the cars than some.

I usually just see what Youtuber content appeals to me at that present moment. Some do have influence, it's helped me up my game car wise, as for merch, I admit buying a Hello One and All T shirt when I first started watching STG... rolleyes I am less inclined to buy a Vincero watch though, or "merch" from LLF.

The key is not to get too wrapped up in these vlogs, the format won't change.

I saw something about Bugatti designing her a special edition but just assumed it was an estate with its back doors smashed in.

The key to me is now not to watch them

The car guys/STG are a couple of the few I can tolerate now, the rest I am either sick looking at or don’t interest me. Clearly I am in the minority but I much prefer the EVO videos

Although he seems to dislike Influencers getting money for opinions, our man Harris appears to be plugging the Autotrader on his twitter (unless it is a work of satire that has gone over my head).

The dream car blurb is just what autotrader sticks in when you share via tweet using their app. No conspiracy here.

Harris has always been a serial car collector, he has always spent many hours combing trader / PH for interesting cars to add to his collection.

Sometimes its short term, an itch to scratch and then passes the car on

you just have to watch this video, if he had been given a pile of cash he would have walked out of that room with a dozen+ cars from his wish list

Except that everyone normally deletes the extra guff, not include it in amongst your text when you are a leading 'influencer' biggrin

That’s what I thought. It’s like ‘look at this property I’ve found’ when you post a Rightmove link.
