Is it *really* that different to how it has ever been? Sure the technology has changed, and maybe the nature of the people, but makers of all kinds of products have always used the lure of the people vs the lure of the product.

How many lust after a Mustang because of Bullitt?

The Countach is well regarded as an awful car to drive but that doesn't stop us all wanting one - I'm sure the Cannonball Run etc... influenced that.

If the youth of today see Shmee the same way a previous generation did Steve McQueen (an extreme example but you get what I mean), you can't blame them - especially as pointed out in light of ludicrous restrictions on traditional advertising
Lmao - Jay, I can’t believe you likened Tim to Steve McQueen with a straight face

But other than that I agree. I want a Countach because they were a poster car for me as a kid. Even though I knew it was rubbish. And I bought a DB5 (also not great to drive) for similar reasons

Someone earlier said it didn’t do Ferrari any good having an F40 as a poster car. I totally disagree with that; the halo for the brand provided by that car has allowed them to sell an awful lot of other cars at inflated prices (and often not that great - looking at you California!). I bet if you spoke to the Ferrari marketing department they couldn’t put a price on the value of that advertising

For those thinking the tide will turn soon, it already has. If you use some of the tools available to anyone you can see which channels are already in decline.

Let's not forget a large number of channels which also ceased to be already, for a variety of reasons. Life on Unleaded, Boosted and of course the delightful Gaskings
Boosted is a bit different really because he made a huge mistake with ownership of the channel and also killed it by never actually doing a single thing to any of his cars, he's still yet to actually buy a turbo car apart from his S3 which he owned for a week and his golf r which never featured on any channel.

He's now back to making false promises about his GT86 when we all know he'll just sell it after a few weeks.

is that too clickbait lads? fancy a capsblock
No all-caps video titles without at least one emoji (preferably the shocked face one) in the thumbnail.
And killer mr2 sounds more dramatic.
I'll see what I can do

The latest TGE TV Vlog is pure genius, with a purple and carbon waftmobile, borrowed for the occasion.

An astute businessmen doing a bit of banter about cars, it could almost be a satire of the high end car market. Added to which you have the soap opera like list of other personalities/friends

To me it's absolutely hilairious; with clickbait, heavy product placement, catch phrases, self deprecation and insight.
Tom has even shown some taste recently with his 1966 Porsche 912 project wink

Making money out of chaos and cars; one of the most interesting car vids I have seen on youtube for a while. I have a dark sense of humour, so to me it's showing our superficial cash society for what it is.

I still have not bought one of his gym memberships or car air fresheners though, so I don't think its a scam as this topic suggests - just a new way of marketing and having a laugh.

I was paraphrasing. Either that or I need to steer clear of the whisky. One of the two biggrin

I think that’s the thing with TGE. He’s taking the piss. We know he’s taking the piss. He knows we know he’s taking the piss. And that’s why I quite like dipping in and out. Just don’t take it seriously

I like the Car Guys stuff at the moment, but I think they need to be really careful that they don’t step too far across the “we’re rich enough to buy 2 of everything” line and move from being interesting to smug. So far they’ve done that reasonably successfully

Archie's latest vid where he's in the GT3RS at Goodwood "I Nearly Crashed My GT3RS On A Lethal Track!"

Thankfully someone linked to the time of the incident in the comments, it was 13min odd in a 18min vid.

Click bait at it's finest lad.

3 black flags for noise and thats his day over.
As others have mentioned, not sure it's click bait and I found Archie's breakdown of what went wrong pretty good and his back to back comparison to a previous lap.

What's also quite interesting is to follow is the continuous comparison between Archie's 991.1 GT3 RS and Tony's 991.2 GT3 RS in their respective hands. On one track the times were fairly close (Silverstone IIRC) and on Goodwood it appears that there was a significant advantage for Archie's driving skill not being compensated for by the newer car.

I've just watched a near 20 minute video where the YouTuber is driving a Novitec 812 Ferrari. The highlights for the YouTuber were the colour of the car's key and the noise of the exhaust. Literally, the entire section about the Ferrari (I'm guessing 15 minutes of the video) was about the noise of the exhaust. I despair.

Obviously the adverts during these popular videos are now big business. If one uses an adblocker, does that mean the Youtuber (or YouTube itself - sorry don't know how it works) doesn't get the revenue from hosting these adverts?

No adverts, no ad revenue. The savvy ones will have deals with other brands personally which net them an income based on their views / content watched. Same as TV, why do you think WBAC still advertise round re-runs of Top Gear on Dave.

You can kill most if not all net based advertising with a Pi hole on your router though. It means no adverts, which might in turn mean no internet, which might be for the better of humanity.
