I've just watched a near 20 minute video where the YouTuber is driving a Novitec 812 Ferrari. The highlights for the YouTuber were the colour of the car's key and the noise of the exhaust. Literally, the entire section about the Ferrari (I'm guessing 15 minutes of the video) was about the noise of the exhaust. I despair.
Yet it has 100,00 views in 7 hours, welcome to running a business!
Tim

People click on the videos to see what is happening, so 100,000 views in 7hrs is great, but I for one havent watched it, whereas I watched all of your previous videos. I wouldnt be so bold as to suggest you should change on my account, but maybe just check to see you arent alienating a sector of your followers.

Your trip is a once in a lifetime trip over to the States and I am very envious...but come on you are better than just constantly revving engines and listening to the exhaust noises.

Like I said re your Bentley video....the contents is becoming less and less about the history and details of the cars and more a car spotting video.

If someone could photoshop Tim's mug onto the Steve McQueen giving the V's picture that would be amusing.

Thanks for kind comments and we're all getting older, it's a fact of life!

It's fun doing vids on a completely different subject to cars too, might get a little tougher to keep the pace of new vids appearing during the winter months but let's see.

Thanks again for the support. H

Harry - I'd watch a video of you opening a Kinder Surprise. Your videos are superb. I never thought I'd be interested in a video about how a combine harvester works, straight after watching you drive your Elan into The Big Smoke. I'm assuming you have no plans to ppf the combine, get it wrapped, put a noisy exhaust on it or change the colour of the stitching on the steering wheel.

But surely enjoyment of the content doesnt correlate to the view count? I mean people click and watch before they know what the content is, rather knowing what the content is and then decide to watch.

Interesting idea but no, combine will be staying standard. I much prefer originality..

Having said that, combine does have a trick red leather seat, which we recently discovered is heated as standard. We only found out when combine driver said he was struggling to sit in it as it was getting hot on an already hot day! We then found a hidden switch in the armrest; who knew combines had heated seats as an option..

I'm a casual watcher of car influencers (or whatever you're supposed to call them on Youtube) as I suspect a lot of others are. The thing that really frustrates me is that in many cases you don't really learn very much about the car they are driving, or get an opinion on it.

My three favourite channels on this subject matter are Jay Leno's garage, Harry's garage and Doug DeMuro (although he can be quite annoying). They all give a pretty detailed explanation of the cars they are driving and then give a reasonably honest assessment of what it's like to drive them.

I've quite enjoyed some of Tim's/SOL etcs videos in the past but I've not watched many recently because I feel they are getting pretty repetitive and after watching them I just feel like I've wasted 20 minutes of my life. I'm sure others enjoy them, and have no axe to grind with those who do, but for me they aren't really giving what I want.

The stats are more complex than that. For the big players on youtube it's about making engaging content which people don't click away from after 30 seconds and which people return to watch future videos. It used to be all about short videos where clickbait worked, I don't think it does now (sustainably).

Still clickbait isnt it. Next it will be "watch this 30 minute video and see at which point we flash up a special code which wins you a free pair of socks"

That will keep the engagement.

Ultimately it is all becoming what Harris moaned about when Smarc saw his arse. "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure" Goodhart's law

Reminds me of driving my gf's Golf one day as it has heated seats that are on a dial so stay on the last setting. She'd set them to level 5 out of 5 (why VW does a heated seat need 5 settings?!) and the day I got in it was baking hot.
I had to pull over as I thought I was actually ill with the heat up my backside and it was incredibly uncomfortable. It was upon getting out of the car I noticed my mistake.....I feel for the farmer!

Oh and keep up the good work Harry, yours are by far the best vehicular youtube videos around!

I can honestly say I've never watched one of harrys vids or even had them come up as suggested

Seeing as everyone on here seems to love him I'll give one a watch tonight, any recommendations?

For Harry I would suggest the Countach to the south of France or the Rolls to the Arctic Circle.

One of my favorites...as is Harrys Garage, always a good watch and learning something too is a bonus.

Harry could review lawnmowers and I'd lap up every minute.

Definitely these or the Ferrari in the Sahara Desert.

Enjoyed the cost break down of his car videos also.
