I'm actually good friends with James, he's been doing more views per month than me for years now, although on lifetime he's a few hundred million behind. Subs wise he overlook a few months ago which makes sense considering the views although something interesting, most of us with similar types of channels (Strad, Vehicle Virgins, DDE etc) are all around 2m suggesting it's almost a current market size cap for this niche of content.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAYQzkGojAM

When you say "only been going a few years" though, he's been regularly posting for 6.5yrs and started a year before that. I think it's easy from the outside for people not to realise how long most of the established channels are actually running before they are really known about.

....your point is fair about time frame to build up viewers. I first seen 'james' when he quit his job / got made redundant and camped in car parks (in a tent) with his orange lambo. Paul not mincing words with the title and description of his M135i review (not yet watched the vid)
I guess that video is the reason why Harris is so salty about influencers...Whilst I don’t like the new car he’s wrong about a few things....it’s not a proper M car yet he keeps referring to it as an M car and talking about M3’s etc and he says it’s more powerful than the outgoing car....it’s not.

Harris actually makes the opposite point frequently - that they all blow smoke up the manufacturers arses so the reviews become diluted. He is clearly getting the M badge naming value mixed up which will confuse people and is less than ideal.Whilst I don’t like the new car he’s wrong about a few things....it’s not a proper M car yet he keeps referring to it as an M car and talking about M3’s etc and he says it’s more powerful than the outgoing car....it’s not.

Having watched the video it did seem curious he referred to it as if it were a full fat M car, which it isnt. I am also amused he said the steering on a BMW is his favourite thing ever... can't recall the last BMW with great steering I drove
And that right there it's the point. How can you take seriously the opinion of someone who praises BMW steering? Paul is like the mate at the pub that talks to you as a fellow "car guy" because he owns an S Line audi and you have to spend the whole night biting your tongue as he tells you how light it is and how great the steering feels. It's probably faster than a 911 too.
Like most youtube car people ironically they only skim the superficial surface of the subject.
Really enjoyed JayEmm's vid on the Hartge X5. Its not the latest and greatest thing but I love the choice of something quite obscure- for example I got onto his channel because of the Venturi video he did. The lesser known stuff is always interesting on some level especially the tuner stuff. I got into cars around the early 2000s when Hartge BMWs, Brabus Mercedes and Gemballa/Techart Porsches were considered utterly bonkers compared to the OEM offerings. Its a bit different these days. I cant believe how few exist that you know of. Would've thought that there would be more then 2 or 3..
Who knows maybe he get his hands on one of their V8 powered 1 series some day?

The fact that he was open about disliking it was good (better than Joe Achilles forced review on it). But stating that it was more powerful than the old car of constantly referring to it as an M car? His 'review' is just as diluted because the facts are wrong. JaredVannett said:

Interesting thoughts around the 2M mark, car throttle are the other big channel, currently at 2.64m and their growth is still relatively strong on a video a week, though the content is very different from vlogging.
