I'm quite surprised that Mighty Car Mods don't get mentioned a lot or even at all considering their size and the fact they work on very normal/relateable cars.

Are they simply that well received that there's no need to mention them?

I like that they muted when he says how fast they are going. Not sure that'll protect you!

MCM has evolved almost beyond recognition from what it was. The real sad thing with their channel is I think a large amount of stuff they do is not even road legal in Oz - at least a lot of their videos seem to discuss it as an issue they constantly face, getting cars through "reggo".

I tend to binge MCM seasons, I haven't watched a single one of their videos in months but last time I did I watched a whole day of it.

I don't have a lot of time to watch YT myself sadly, if I am editing then I can't have background noise on, if I am uploading my connection sucks - and then a lot of the time I am out filming.

I get the impression that they are losing their enthusiasm/struggling a bit for ideas which is understandable.

I watch most of it in the background whilst working, I think the Japan trip with the March Super Turbo was the last video I actually sat and watched.

I like the Cargo build, but the Mini build has turned into how to drag out a project forever and over-engineer everything, it's surely going to be rather heavy when it's done.

Especially when they don't mute him saying going 125mph over jumps

Yeah, but its become an institution, my brother has watched all of them recently, its strangely therapeutic, and so educational, should be compulsory viewing for kids to see what you can do, how to tackle problems and that there is always a solution.

I think YouTube in general is marvellous for that, giving people knowledge and confidence, you see channels like B is for Build and Goonzsquad, how young guys start out and go from rank amateurs to talented car builders, must be the same for all types of endeavour, amazing to think how it is advancing peoples capabilities quietly, it isnt all funny cat videos and "influencers".

It's one thing I am constantly working on. I used to do a long exterior walkaround of every car, but the comments section was full of people complaining the videos were too long.

...

Also, I had to look up Alan Whicker after he got mentioned a few times in the comments. Better than James Corden.
Hah i like carwow for their quick walkaround and interior walkaround - very helpful when wondering about questions like ‘which is better for 4 adults - 850i or s63’ etc.

WRT Mr Whicker - hopefully you don't take offence (if it was James Cordon i’d not be watching..), its just a formal presentation style in a sea of causal/conversational journos these days. The latter helps make people more personable and thus builds a rapport with audience imo.

Basically every car you see on Carwow is a press car that they're filming in an environment they have total control over. I tried filming something today with a car and it failed miserably because of wind noise, bad light and the fact it was freezing - plus twas just me on my lonesome.

I dont ignore the feedback though, and some videos already released have featured an increasing amount of exterior/interior shots

Just spotted in my YT suggestions that Sideways Sid has dropped all sideways branding as of a week ago and renamed Sid North... Have I missed something? Or has he realised that drifting on public roads and filming it is asking for trouble?

@jayemm89 I like your style. It's so much nicer to watch than "chaos" and stupid banter. I like to put your vids on when cooking. I have noticed I tend to like videos that are commentary heavy. For whatever reason, I find that more interesting than chimpmunk music and drone flybys. Carfection and a few others do well with their exterior shots, but it's a lot of production work.

Please don't add chipmunk music and swooping exterior shots (my advice). Perhaps walk arounds at the half-way mark? More exterior shots whilst you're talking about the cars on your drives?

He's a good friend of Joe Achillies so wouldn't be surprised if Joe being caught out has caused him to change his channel for the better.

I love a bit of MCM, some of their projects are less interesting to me than others but generally I always enjoy watching - it's good viewing to get me enthusiastic about a day in the garage too.

Very, very few of my videos have any music on. I'd suspect the total number is something like ten out of 400 or so. The reasoning was always quite simple - I want to be efficient with my "storytelling", and so when I'm doing a car review, either I should be telling you about the car or you should be listening to the noises it makes. If I'm playing music it's literally dead time. I do it sometimes when I'm feeling particularly artsy, but it is rare.

I actually created a playlist of "waffle" videos, which are basically podcasts with a video track. Some of those have done very well.

I'd agree MCM have gone off the boil somewhat and the stupid 'track battles' are starting to grate a bit.
I'll confess to watching far too much Youtube, and hardly watch normal TV anymore, and enjoy a steady diet of American (and other) channels

Cleetus (both channels)
PFI Speed
boostedboiz
Rob Dahm
B is for Build
Off the Ranch and the mansion rebuild
The Skid factory, Al's brilliant.
Bennys Custom Works -Cresta on Drag Week etc
1320 video occasionally
Tavarish, who actually finished a build for once..
DDE, sometimes
and that led me to Sheepy Race and the builds they do.
Emelia Hartford.
Sarah N Tuned.
I've just started watching Deadbeat Garage to learn about building A B20vtec.

plus a whole load of Classic Mini channels as that's my main interest.

Did a healthy cull last week - so much boring content now from previously interesting channels. Too much repetitive walk-around-a-car on stuff that’s unobtainable and unrelatable that we’ve seen 10+ times before.

STG culled despite being likeable, DTW is a farce - barely anything about the adventure of driving the world and mostly just a big meet and greet holiday tour. There are better people to watch for that.

SOL survives because likeable, and genuine - though content struggling (albeit bike content is cool). His time is almost up though.

Shmee - only so many garage tours and car collections the world needs to see, particularly with endless false enthusiasm. content seems out of ideas - used to enjoy in years past. culled.

JWW also starting to dry up - though did watch the carl hartley chat so he survives, just. also does anyone care about NVN?!

Archie, LLF, seb - clogging up feed for way too long, no idea why they're even subscribed. culled.

JayEmm - likeable, well researched, interesting (relatable) cars too. Shame about the BBC/Alan Whicker/Clarkson Island presentation style that makes it a little formal but perhaps a product of cameraman background. a keeper.

Tentatively subscribed to Sid too, liked his last few vids on c63 (plus i want a c63 again..)

Harry’s*, TheCarGuys, Carfection,Carwow,Evo,PH,Smith&Sniff,44teeth,Joe,collecting cars podcast all still solid.

James May’s 70’s sandwich videos (Food Tribe) mildly amusing too.

Yet to get round to any sort of cull, though SOL and the hire cars is a bit boring. Curious to see how long Archie keeps this SVR for, and what other cars Shmee has on the way when he gets back to the UK. A Place In The Sun... I mean Drive The World with STG has occasional interesting content, but apart from CarWow, DriveTribe, HubNut, everything else just isn't so interesting, Perhaps it's the time of year with everything slowing down, or just that it's been done to death so these cars aren't so special anymore,
.
You can only get so excited over a car you've already chosen, financed, had plates put on, and done a build up including drive to dealership so many times. Apart from the reviews, everything else is too samey, if not shifting merch like watches, or advertising clothing rolleyes

Here, bloody here. The above gentlemen are absolutely spot on. We don't need any more privileged, family-monied, self-important, merch-bashing, manfuacturer arse-licking, 'look at 'shmee' churn-fests.
