Audi coupe. Used to see loads of them. Haven’t seen one for years.
I had one of those for a bit, 2.3V6 and built like a tank. Great car but had to let it go to someone on here when the exhaust went and it was going to be a fortune to fix it. Odd thing, took it for an MOT which it passed but when I got it back it never seemed to handle as well again. As mine was green we called it the Panzer.

Calibra is another one that seems to have vanished. Drove one for a bit I would happily say probably the best Vauxhall I've had to drive.

The 605 is a particularly rare spot, bearing in mind they never made a 605 estate....
What was the one they made in an estate then? was a G reg and assumed it was a 605 big bugger it was though

Corsa B's are getting very rare, in fact I hardly see any Corsa C's, same with Astras and Vectras. And the Saxos from the same era thankfully

Either the 405 or the 505. Both were available on a G plate.

When I was in Argentina a few years ago saw a lot of Ford Contina MK4s being driven around. Some were in very good condition.

I saw a Renault 21 Turbo go through the centre of Cambridge yesterday. I'd never seen one before but it looked like a bloody nice example. White gloss finish with no badges other than the front.

I had honestly never seen one before, but now I want one. The reason we never see them is probably for electrical problems being French and all...

It was the shape before the 405 so must have been the 505, had 7 seats and I know that the 405 estate as far as I know didn't have that option

They produced the 1960 Ford Falcon all the way into the 1990s! This car may be lesser known in the UK, but will be familiar to antipodean and US readers.

In 1990 or so, I was in one being used as a taxi. In Buenos Aires. I asked the driver how much a car would cost, there.

"A good car? A car like the Falcon?" the driver said. "Oh, you're looking at maybe the equivalent of $25,000."

The market maths were, obviously, rendered insane by rigid macroeconomic controls imposed by the government. An old car, built new, but priced (for its time) at a premium. One could scarcely imagine a more colourful dramatisation of economics.

The other day in Cheltenham I saw a Lancia Fulvia, Healey 1000 and 2 (proper) DS' in about ten minutes.

Then - rarest of rare - a Renault Safrane!

I'm pretty certain they came out of the factory with duct taped bumpers.

Anything over 15 years old is likely to be a relatively rare sight. Anything over 20 even more so.

It's nothing surprising. Many people like to be seen in newer cars, and of those that don't care, most of them won't want normal, daily-used cars that require constant (often expensive) work to keep them on the road when it could be cheaper and easier to buy a newer one that starts and goes wherever they want it to.

A damp climate with salted roads doesn't help the older cars either.

On my morning commute I often pass obscure French saloons going the other way which look to all be driven by the same person.

From memory he has a sporty Citroen BX, Citroen ZX, Citroen Xsara Coupe, Citroen XM, Citroen C6, Peugeot 605, Peugeot 607, Renault 25 and a Renault Safrane.

To be fair they might not be his and he maybe works for a French car garage of something but either way they must all be quite rare.

Cheating I suppose, but this is a house near me and the cars haven't moved for at least 5 years.

Yeah, was thinking this myself. As a child of the 90's I use to jot down the cars I saw on every journey with my dad (to pass the time) #nerdalert being around 9 years old in 1995 I can recall so many cars your just don't see now.

Few I can think of off top of my head, some already mentioned probably...

- Mk1 Mondeo, even the more curvy Mk2 now
- Mk2/Mk3 Fiesta
- Ford Escorts (all of them)
- Mazda Xedos (remember these...)
- Honda Prelude (saw one other day, got quite excited)
- Citroen Xantia
- Peugeot 405/Estate
- Vauxhall Calibra
- Vectra B + facelift '98+ (These were everywhere at one time)
- Fiat Punto (not seen one of these for ages)
- Most Rovers
- Citroen Saxo
- BMW E36

Loads more, but too tired to remember, will have to dig out my old notebook when I was a kid (if I still have it...)

In my opinion the scrappage scheme did get alot of old cars a few years back, as most these cars were not worth anything, so £2k was good money for them. Just a shame really, alot have gone, definitely a nostalgic thing with me.

The other thing is most the population won't want to be seen in a car that's 5 years old, let along 15+ it isn't good for the their "look/rep" these days and finance and pcp has killed alot of these, but that's another thread smile

But, many do like the bangernonics it seems so maybe a few will be kept going a little longer I don't know.

2 doors down from me an old boy has a V reg rover 211SE, another in the next street has a few, an old Toyota something or other, think it’s on an E reg, and an F reg austin montego 2.0 Mayfair and an E reg Volvo estate.

There was also an N reg Astra 2.0 CDX in a local car wash recently, looked immaculate.
