Swift Sport - £16,499 (during June)

Temporary swiftest Swift discount confirmed as launch date approaches

Despite the many positive attributes seemingly present in the new Suzuki Swift Sport, its £17,999 list price has proved an obstacle for many since the first drives. Not only is it significantly beyond the £14k an old Swift Sport cost (which only had 4hp less), £18k puts the Swift at the mercy of the more senior hot hatches - the 200hp Fiesta ST at £18,995 comes to mind.

Now while the Suzuki comes packed with equipment for that price, and while the majority of cars are purchased on finance in 2018, it would appear that Suzuki has had second thoughts about that list price too. Because for the first month of sales, which commence on June 1st, the Sport will be available with a £1,500 discount - dropping the price to £16,499.

Suddenly it becomes a more tempting proposition. £16.5k puts the Swift beneath the list price of a 100hp Fiesta ST-Line (£17,140), a five-door Mini One (£16,600) and an Abarth 500 Trofeo (£17,660 with more power than the Swift, but a 10 year-old design). At the moment any options to bump that price up haven't yet been confirmed, although the Swift Sport does come with six no-cost colour choices, reversing camera, sat-nav, DAB and adaptive cruise as standard.

The introductory offer will be offered to new and existing retail customers, with a PCP deal due in the next couple of weeks. Does this price cut do enough to convince you of a Swift Sport? What else might you consider for the money? Can we make it a page of comments before the used alternatives are mentioned? Let debate commence!

"We've not got the pricing wrong. We just found a huge bag of money in the Suzuki-UK office and decided to share our windfall with new Swift-Sport buyers. Roll-up, roll-up."

At 14k it was a cracking car. Even at the 16.5 offer, I'd struggle to justify a budget car like a Suzuki over a Fiesta or Mini.

The swift sport of say 2010 was a pretty decent little car. Not bad looking for what it was.

But how can they make the new car so ugly?

Does the Fiesta at 17.1k come with reversing camera, sat-nav, DAB and adaptive cruise as standard? The Suzuki is also much more interesting.

Do you reckon it's objectively ugly ? I quite like it. I prefer it to the Fiesta ST's design although those things are not that important to me anyway.

Regardless of its pricing relative to a Fiesta.....the original price being 29% more than the outgoing Swift was the problem, but it seems they've rectified that.

I'm not entirely sold on the looks of the new one and it looks a smaller car than a Fiesta so it should be cheaper.

Can get one for £14500 on a certain discount site, makes it much more tempting. Going to have to arrange a test drive.

A good test for a mag to run would be the Swift Sport vs the 138bhp ST-Line Fiesta - see if the extra cost of the Ford is worth paying for any handling benefit bearing in mind the Suzuki is probably quicker and better equipped

What makes it much more interesting?? laugh. Less popular doesn't mean more interesting.

Why do i get the feeling that, the only reason this discount has probably come about, is due to Ford's surprisingly low price offering for the most basic Fiesta ST(1) trim? I know they're not direct rivals but it has got alot of people talking.

It's absolutely that. Such big discounts of the OTR price on the month of launch was not in their plans!

Yep, its a big car now (as wide as my current 1-Series) and so directly up against these while before it was smaller and so had a different market/USP.

Never understood why people would choose a car because they don't want what everyone else has. A popular car is usually popular for a reason.

The price drop still wouldn't tempt me. I'm sorry, it's just ugly as sin. It doesn't look good from any angle. A Fiesta ST-Line is 1000x better looking, as is an Up! GTI. Even the equipment deficit doesn't put me off to be honest. Things like a reversing camera don't interest me. Every car I've ever driven that's had one, I've never used it. I'd rather look out of the back properly. Maybe I am being a vain twit, but I would be genuinely embarrassed to be seen in the Swift.

While I didn't particularly want an old Swift Sport, I did understand why it might appeal to people. It was fairly unique in the market. The need for a down-sized turbo engine has just turned this into a poor imitation of some very good alternatives. Once the PCP deals arrive on the Fiesta ST, this car will just make no sense at all.

I think it’s terrible looking.

It’s got something Juke-esque about the front end.

Previous model wasn’t a bad looking little car!
