A supercar owning 458 person said to me today “Classics are for people who can’t afford supercars”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or pretend to nod in agreement. I did dare him to post on Ferrari chat or Pistonheads and try to educate him about not just the new cars but also the classics. I highly doubt he will post will see.

Not only that he wants to buy a new car because his mates Lambo Hurucan is 0.2 second quicker than him from the traffic lights. I tried to explain to him so what if someone quicker it doesn’t mean anything. Couldn’t get through to him and he was diverting off topic as he was losing the argument.

Discuss. “Classics are for people who can’t afford supercars”

I'm throwing this right back at ya.

Why should we discuss just because you tell us to ?

I think all he is trying to say is “I believe I am richer and therefore more superior than people who own classic cars”.

He sounds like a Wally to be honest and not worth the conversational effort... it’s no different to someone wanting to argue about their favourite colour, the best you can do is ‘oh right, cool...”

A 458 is substantially cheaper than an awful lot of classics.

A lot of classic Ferrari's are worth a hell of a lot more than a mere 458 plus have a damn sight more class as well.

Classic ownership is not all Morris Minors and VW beetles. (Which can still be worth loads)

One's rented on the never never with the cash that should be going into the person’s pension while the other is just bought with cash that’s left over after making the pension contribution.

Most classic owners couldn’t afford a super car because they view money differently.

Sounds a nob. Ask him what he thinks about a 'classic' 250GTO fetching $52 million, or or probably $51.8million more than his 'mere' Ferrari is worth.

I would think that certain classics are worth many multiples of his depreciating supercar.

I should add he thinks a McLaren P1 is cooler than a McLaren F1

Hes allowed to think whatever he wants. There is no right or wrong answer with something like that.

There are far, far fewer of my £2,500 classic on the road than there are 458s. Why would I want to buy something so common?

The only reason to own a 458 is that you can't afford a 488, discuss...

Surely today’s super car is tomorrow’s classic anyways so it’s just a time issue?
