A supercar owning 458 person said to me today “Classics are for people who can’t afford supercars”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or pretend to nod in agreement. I did dare him to post on Ferrari chat or Pistonheads and try to educate him about not just the new cars but also the classics. I highly doubt he will post will see.

Not only that he wants to buy a new car because his mates Lambo Hurucan is 0.2 second quicker than him from the traffic lights. I tried to explain to him so what if someone quicker it doesn’t mean anything. Couldn’t get through to him and he was diverting off topic as he was losing the argument.

Actually Classics are for people who love to exist in purgatory, sit in an uncomfortable seat, feel water dripping through the seals, poor insulation against noise, breakdowns every few miles, spend weeks with glassfibre and filler under their nails, oil on their trousers, a miserable looking wife leaning out of the window moving the broken wipers and have a tendency to stand by their car and want to bore everyone talking about it.

And I just love them.....

I would think that certain classics are worth many multiples of his depreciating supercar.

I bet he owns a Ferrari cap.

And jacket.

And wears them when he’s driving it.

A 458 is not really a supercar is it
hehe

I know it’s a huge generalisation as I’m sure there are some really decent 458 owners - including many on here - however this kind of opinion is exactly what I expect from someone who drives a 458.

Surely super cars are for the people that can’t afford classic super cars? Like that F40 they had on their wall as a kid....can’t afford it, get the next best thing....a generic new super car

I'm assuming the 458 "owner" either bought it on tick, or isn't the owner at all and has rented it or something.

I've met lots of people who do stuff like that to appear "rich".

"Classics are for people with taste".

The top 50? 100? Expensive cars you can buy are clasics. Compared to, say a 250GTO, bugatti royale, etc any and all modern supercars are small change. Pitance. Cheap. Council estste values.

That says it all really, nothing to discuss. He's not doing the supercar owner stereotype any favours.

If I had around £140k to spend on any car new or classic I wouldn't look far beyond a 458. Great value, terrific cars despite having auto boxes.

Anyways agree with above. Few weeks ago I invited a work colleague to a classic car show
Pay at the door and show what you want.
He has a bran new top of the range 911, white goods white big wheels etc. He likes wearing big watches and 'brands' and much bling . He couldnt understand why his 911 got no attention while people of all ages we're swooning around jags, heeleys, mustangs bentley's tvr's etc.
I did explain it was a classic car show .
