It simultaneously lost gears, overheated, seized up and set on fire? That’s some misfortune right there.

This is why PH is so shockingly st for new members. This person is asking for help, appears to be in a little panic and he gets the Triumph type pipe and slippers idiots belittling him/her.

Eventually PH will have 7 remaining members in their 90’s, because the rest have all died, fighting to the bitter end to eradicate new members as quickly as possible.

Get your driving gloves on you old farts and go out or something.

OP, post up a copy of your advert text to help us help you. Based on this we may be able to help you with a response to the buyers letter. P.S. PH AVERAGE age is around 58, so don’t take the cantankerous comments too harshly.

OP, you are being scammed.

Was it a two stroke RS125? I count each mile completed trouble free as a bonus until it blows itself up again. hehe

RS125 - OP is probably young, give him a break. Buyer is trying it on and he won't have come across this before.

Sure thing.

“2005 aprilia rs 125
MOT until August
Full V5 logbook
24000 kilometers
Full power 28hp, 95mph+
28mm carb, standard exhaust which appears to have had a de-cat
Fairings are scratched and front mudguard fractured but still attached.
Great bike, I'd keep it forever if I had the time for it”

There's nothing in there he can use against you, you never made any claims along the lines of "It will run forever", I'd say your best option is to politely invite him to fk off, or tell him you'll be happy to continue in court. I'd be extremely surprised if he bothered to take it to court, seeing as he's most likely trying to take you to the cleaners. Call his bluff and don't sweat it too much.

What's the betting that he's still happily riding around on the bike, nothing is wrong with it, and they are just trying it on, much like the oil in coolant scam.

And you remind us all of a 10-year-old in every thread. C'est la vie.

I'm going to sound like and be a massive dick here but fk it its my opinion on how the site is going.
He's not a new member though is he? It is the new standard. Someone has a motor related problem types "car problem" bike problem" etc into google. Pistonheads comes up. registers and first post is a cry for information.
Fine if someone who has a motoring interest been a member for a while then has a problem. I understand it is not a time served forum or "he has been here the longest and so must be wisest" but it is almost like NHS tourism.

The site has become so boring to read. Topics like "should I buy a vauxhall mereva"
The boring daily car/snotter used to be one topic which was interesting as a change but now it is the bread and butter.
The site is becoming "what car" or parkers.

Tell him to do what he wishes, and any further communication from him will be construed as harassment and you will alert the relative authorities. And then block his number.

Retract the £200 offer. A text, voicemail or letter from you is not a contractual obligation to pay anything.

What has he said in his letter?

I'm fully with the 'he's a scammer' brigade. The fact that he got 100 miles tells you it was working.
Has he filled it up and not put oil in?

Try looking him up on facebook and see if he has pics etc.

I'd retract the £200 offer and wait for the actual court docs.

Dear Scamming chav

I have received your letter dated 25th May 2018.

I cannot accept any liability for the problems that you claim you have had with the bike I sold you. The bike was sold as seen, was in no way mis-described and I gave you every opportunity to inspect the bike as thoroughly as you liked.

In all future correspondence, I will reiterate this point.

Yours sincerely

Caveat: IANAL
---

Dear (Blokeface)

Thank you for your letter of (date) the contents of which I note.

My position is very clear. The advert was an accurate description of the bike at time of sale and you were given the opportunity to inspect and test drive the bike (an offer which you declined) at the time of sale. This was a private sale with no warranty expressed or implied. Caveat emptor.

This will be my last communication with you on the matter, which I consider closed.

Yours sincerely

Gixxer_6er
