Another one for me was the SLK. When I was interviewing for banking jobs in the mid 90s they were new out, and I really hoped to have one one day. I was asked in one interview what I would buy if I made it in the business, and said an SLK. The interviewer was amus3d, as it was such a modest target.

In the end I did get one, an SLK55 AMG, which I bought for one trip only, a drive to a friend’s wedding in Toulouse.

It was worth it, it was one of the nicest cars and drives I hav ever had.

My attainable teenage dreams were:

Haven't owned any yet and unfortunately many others think the same as me, now hampering the attainability!

Always wanted one of these 'when I grew up' -

But went one better and this was mine - Probably the best car I have owned due to the significance of always wanting one as a kid

I always wanted a Lancia Delta Integrale. I played a lot of Sega Rally as a young lad. Of course, they weren't always unattainable. A friend of mine nearly bought one when he left the army for reasonable money.

On a less exotic level, I used to love Jaguar cars when I was young and I used to go past the Gosforth Jaguar dealership, marvelling at the gorgeous XJ's parked outside of it. I bought a smoker X308 XJ a few years ago and enjoyed living the boyhood dream of owning one!

Out of interest, which one didn't and why? The Integrale and Cossie would have been in my list too but to the best of my knowledge have never been within reach when I've been in the position to buy!

I hate to say it but it was the integrale, shocking driving position and so slow but its still my fav looking car ever.I would have one in a glass case to look at rather than drive. In the 90s at the tender age of 19 the 16v astra was a serious tool

A black 911 with a whale tail. Funnily was talking about this this evening. Porsche used to advertise every week in the Sundays glossy mags & the ads were so good I used to tear them out & stick on my wall

All the way though senior school I wanted a cerebera. Ended up with a V8s which was meant to be a stopgap until I moved on up to a cerb. Fell in love and it’s still with me eight years on.

Finishing school I loved noble M12s. Almost spent my house deposit on a GTO3 in 2008-9 ish (GT03 ANN was the reg, it was on with mole valley. I wonder where that one is now). Ended up buying one last winter after a couple of house moves and being able to afford one again. No regrets at all and another keeper for me.

M400 GT Cup

I should also say I always envied bmw840s too. I remember seeing a silver one dropping of other pupils at my school. Had a very memorable number plate. Went on to 911s a 575 then back to 911s. They ended up moving into the house next to my folks for a while. Guess who now owns a 840 and can’t bear to sell it either wink

Think I may have a problem getting attached!

I harp on about this but, if you look to the right on this picture,

You See a Toyota Celica GT4, equal billing,

A quick shufty at the Classifieds,

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Some others at more ambitious prices but 4/5 grand is still a realistic budget, a sum that would get you an Integrale, only if it was made by Tamiya or was delivered in a dust pan and brush.

Ok, the Integrale is prettier (GT4 does have something about it though) and maybe it drives better, I drove one in 1991 and was impressed and haven't driven a GT4 Celica but cant imagine its ten times better, plus I get the impression that the Toyota is possibly a bit more resilient/less temperamental ? (which isnt saying much)

No particular vested interest, not got a warehouse full of them, just cant understand why the Integrale and Escort Cosworth are so highly prized and the GT4 comparatively cheap ?

Still an iconic car in its own right.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale.

By the time I could buy one I realised it really didn't matter and they were then collectable too.

High priced cars that never sell, they should be 25k tops
