And then if it's not available, why do you show how much it is? (plus £21,042 for Weissach package)

From the 996 by the way of 997 through to the 991 I think the standard, non Rennsport, cars have got better looking and more desirable. Strangely though the RS models have gone the other way for me, the 996 is still the best and they appear to be getting uglier with each iteration. I'd still take any of them of course.

Previous generation (997.2 GT3RS and 997 GT2RS) far more rewarding cars in my opinion.

Yes the game has moved on and technically the new cars are superior but in terms of driver engagement and reward the previous generation is in a league of its own.

991 GT2RS whilst fun at first for its obscene performance ultimately becomes a little boring and lacking driver engagement.

There's torque lovers and horsepower lovers. It depends how you drive a car. For daily use a high revving 500 brake thing seems to much. A 200 hp screamer would be lovely though. I love an early 930 and that's enough sound and excitement for me wink

To be quite honest, I don't even manage to fully exploit my 997.1 GT3 on track, so an RS of any generation has performance beyond my abilities.

Having previously owned a (500hp, mapped) 996 turbo and also briefly driven a 997 GT2, I am very much also a fan of turbo engines. I have absolutely no idea what 700hp must feel like, because even the previous GT2 that I drove was savage in its ability and eagerness to generate boost - far, far keener than my 996 turbo - and frighteningly quick to accelerate. On the track, I've always found turbos slightly harder to set into the corners, whereas GT3s (997 and 991.1) I found to be a delight to balance on the throttle.

Sound is very subjective. Stand in the Nurburgring car park and watch a GT2 RS, flat-out down Dottinger Hohe, turbos whooshing and tell me it's not a wonderful sound. The GT3's top-end howl shades it, but it's a close thing.

Both great, great cars though.

Is Kyle Fortune Nic Cackett's long lost son? I actually enjoyed reading this article but parts of it were verging on being OTT

The GT2RS just looks absolutely insane, although (in the entirely hypothetical case) i think i'd go for the 4 litre naturally aspirated engine...

Why no Weissach Pack for UK buyers?
Hi there,

It's an oft-asked question, and here's what I've been told. The GT2 RS was available to UK buyers with Weissach Pack, and indeed, most have been ordered with it. The GT3 RS is different. I discussed this on the launch with Andreas Preuninger, and the decision to not initially offer UK cars with WP was down to availability of parts. The RHD cars were batch produced - pushed down the line together - allowing them to make more, and more quickly. This was done early in the production schedule.

To do that they had to take the decision as to whether they could support WP, and supplied dictated they couldn't. The same is true of PTS (Paint to Sample) on RHD cars, PTS creates delays in production as the suppliers need to provide parts painted separately - there as many as 6 different materials needing painting, it often requiring cars taking off the line - slowing production.

Although nobody's admitting it, there's a bit of a rush to get cars out of the factory before the new emissions standards come into force in Sept. I've driven both a WP and non-WP GT3 RS, and, yes, the lighter wheels make a slight difference, but it's marginal. The rest - carbon bonnet etc, I could live without, as, to me, it looks a bit too 'try hard'. Indeed, AP admitted he'd probably go non WP on 3 RS, and get the wheels later when they're more readily available.

Hope that answers your question.

Best,

Kyle

Spelling and grammar errors and written in a way I struggle to really understand what is being said. Such a poorly written article.
Nick Cackett under a pseudonym, perhaps?
I had exactly the same thought after reading the first few paragraphs...

Great article, great pics; reminds me of early Evo Mag which is good. Had to read this bit a few times "99mph arriving in 5.8 seconds" yikes

Fabulous cars, both way, way too powerful for the public road.

I'd have either in a heartbeat!
