They have a denso part number on them as well from that listing above.

denso 499000-4180

I also found that, but the minimum order of 20 pieces, while still pretty cheap, quality is a concern and long lead time.

Google analytics is going to find a huge increase in searches for old Merc parts, probably find some factory in China will start pushing out these switches again after this.

My experience of Chinese sensors and injectors is extremely poor, most of the time they go in the bin and are replaced by used OEM ones which still work fine after 20 years.

In the ones I've personally bought in the past, the working rate was 50/50 on receipt, and 0% after less than 1000 miles of use.

I don't think you have to limit that to sensors.

When we were on our expedition through Africa, even the Ethiopians were bemoaning Chinese build quality.

It seems their junk is universally disliked.

I have receive THAT call from garage, that starts with, good news or bad news. Good news, suspension work is done. bad news is the ABS light was not a reluctor ring, it is an obscure ABS hydraulic pressure switch, that is not sold by Mercedes individually, Bosch no longer manufacture it, it is specific to the R129 and W140 and the cost of the small sensor is £600 quid, if you can find it. The alternative is £3K for a full ABS unit.

How would sir prefer to be reamed ?

I am now overworking Google to find this damn part. My simpering wallet in the corner, has just slipped in a coma.
Wasn't there an episode of wheeler dealers where they got a corrado ABS unit refurbished, not sure of the company that did it but may be worth a look at the old episode.

hydraulic pressure switch sounds mechanical... so maybe refurbable!

Feeling like I've won the thread this month. 535i se 1998 (non vanos), full SH incl. BMW last two! New cats this year (BMW). All 100% OEM restored by owner since 2010 who refreshed pretty much everything (aircraft engineer by trade). The history file is massive! Needless to say condition is amazing and it rolls along beautifully, such a smooth engine and quiet as anything. I can't believe how solid and quiet it feels compared to my E30 (no surprise) but even most modern vehicles! Not bad for 1500 quid. Sorry for the photos, don't really know how to get these up properly...

Sounds great! The E39 is still such a fabulous car for so little money.

Looks rather unloved and will probably only be a suitable purchase for a mad man, but it does look like a fabulous mini-barge and I hope it gets saved.

Am I going crazy, or has the low cost barge market gone crazy price wise recently. Every car posted on here seems at least a grand over what I think is the real price.

Admittedly I haven't really been looking for the past couple of years and only just started keeping an eye out, but I expected the prices to have gone down, not have a 50% markup!

I don't think the Mora Alpina is worth twice the blue E39. It would need a Madman with a PhD in Man Maths to save that Alpina. What's a 180 K mile Alpina engine worth?

P38 4.6, suspected head gasket. Would I be utterly nuts?
Course not. Thread hero. Go for it. And remember, research is for wimps.
Yes, nuts or you will be shortly after purchase.

Yes, I am a certified, dyed in the wool wimp.

My well cared for low mileage P38, ran great for a few months, then it was Christmas lights time during every trip........caused me more bother than ALL my previous cars put together, was I bitter, naw just sucked lemons for breakfast every day!!!

The electrics (expensive)
Air suspension (3 times)

I can guarantee the steering rack never goes wrong on an old Range Rover!
