Gents, I have a slight crack in the plastic on the side part of the radiator in my E39 540. It leaks steam when the engine is warm. Any ideas how to fix it without replacing the radiator which is itself fine. I have an idea to melt the plastic to seal it.

Is there any chance that the plastic is the right sort for solvent welding to work?

I'm going to see this tomorrow morning - slightly out of thread budget ( at the moment) - it's strong money but I'm assuming( expecting) it to be rust free. I don't like the privacy glass but love everything else.
Still mind and have a good luck on the underside around the jacking points to be on the safe side.
Thanks - will do. The Schnitzer badge will have to go. However it is the most subtle kit I've seen from them I think. They are not known for understatement.
What's with the silver rims around the tachometer and speedometer? Are they Japanese market specific, or an AC Schnitzer addition, or am i just a terrible E39 nerd? They just look wrong - not unsightly - it's just not quite like the usual E39 dashboard or M5 version.

I'm no BMW expert. I've not owned one before but Japanese cars seem to have all sorts of differences. I don't mind the silver trims. It's supposed to be a Japanese 20 year anniversary car so it could possibly be to do with that.

Fix it by replacing the radiator; you don't to mess around with the integrity of an already compromised and fragile E39 cooling system - it will bite you hard if cheap it along.

Brakes, oil and cooling are the three systems you don't want to go cheap on imho.

I'd replace it, as unhelpful a suggestion as that is!

Either replace the radiator... or crack an egg in it. That'll fix it for sure wink

My mate has just had to put a replacement engine in to his petrol E39, due to the cooling system breaking. Don't be like him...

As far as I know these came as standard on the M5 of the era. Can't remember them looking out of place in real life IMO.

Not sure if this is a good 'un or not but just popped up on a local fb page and thought it maybe of interest:

Looks very decent.

I note from my eBay list that the bathroom suite green 190 has gone back up with a price drop. £785 seems like a bargain with MOT until May.

The Ad says it has had a cheapo respray - they couldn't even be bothered to mask the handles off!

Crumbs.

Even so, I'm still tempted.

i think that respray would annoy me... probably fairly hard to put right, clearly not just a case of giving it another paint!!

I prefer it to having rusty wings or mismatched ones. It was clearly a conscious choice to paint the handles, but could likely be sorted fairly easily.

I'm tempted, but from the MOT history, it might not be so pretty underneath.

If it was a single windscreen washer car I'd have already bought it.

And preferably without "DRIVERS DOOR HAS TO BE UNLOCKED FROM INSIDE" ... that would drive me potty but possibly an easy fix?

My The Man likes doing things with doors. Locks, window regulators, he’s a big fan and jumps right on it. He hates bushes though. Cars go in and out his garage and he finds anything else to work on other than a bush.
