Saw this before. All it really needs (for asthetics at least) are amber indicators, Sportline alloys, and OEM rear back box. There is a 2nd hand back box in good condition for 60 odd quid on Ebay..Mercedes 300E Sportline Rare car (find another) lots of work done over last 12 months inc Full service, new brake discs + pads all round, new viscous fan, new rocker cover gasket, new distributor cap + rotar, new bosch battery, gearbox service oil + filter. What are the pitfalls with that generation of V70? Did they have the chocolate autos like the curvier version which followed it?
From my research, there's not an awful lot to worry about and the autos are a lot more reliable than the later ones. There's small things which go wrong, but there's a lot of info out there on sorting them. I think it shows that there are so many out there with big miles.Mine was going to be scrapped, since the heater matrix failed whilst the owner was on holiday and the garage it was towed to didn't want to quote a price, but the chap I bought it from said it took him an hour.
Good to see some love for the old girl! I really rather like it.

That looks magnificent! Although I'd prefer it with gingercators.... That aside it is utterly fantastic! I do rather than a nice 124!

Can I poke my head above the parapet and confess that I don't really like those AMG monoblocs on anything other than the Hammer or 500E? I'd much prefer a lovely set of 8 or 15-holes.
Totally agree with both of these comments (although I may be bias). The monoblocs are great looking wheels but a bit to much for a 300E even in sporline spec. Otherwise it is a lovely looking Mercedes for the money.Smartly presented low-mileage W201 in black but I suspect the photos flatter it and it isn't quite at stocking-filler money.

I had a 2.5 manual for a couple of years and between the Mrs and I we put circa 15,000 miles on it. It was a lovely thing. No velour I'm afraid.I spent the following on it::
New cambelt & tensioner (circa £300)
Non-starting fault - Recovered to a Volvo specialist - showed no fault codes. Turned out to be a faulty fuel pump relay - £30 for a second hand relay they had floating about plus an hours diagnosis time. Edit - Just to add, it threw the ETM light, so 5 mins googling obviously confirmed the ETM module had gone, so I had that repaired with brushless contacts by some chap on line for £100 quid which obviously didn't fix it. Point of the story - ETM modules tend to wear after 100,000 miles but can be repaired at moderate cost with uprated parts rather than replaced with with a part with the same inherent design issue at huge expense at the main dealer.
New clutch, bearing and fork and subsequent overhaul of the drive shafts - £750 (and that was without the Dual Mass )
Warped head and cylinder block resulting in water literally pouringout of the block caused by massive overheating, resulting in the car being scrapped- caused by the bottom radiator hose coming off following the failure of the jubilee clip on the rusting through.
All of us running barges - do keep an eye on such simple stuff and think about stainless steel replacement jubilee clips come service time.

I'd agree. Can't go wrong with 15-holes, IMO. I am looking at this, pretty seriously. Any views? It feels like giving up the faith considering a modern (albeit a ten year old one). It is not the grey-grey it looks in the picture but rather 963 Indium Grey, a kind of brown-grey. Chassis number wdb2112222b368896. Anyone know the garage?

Good spec, I like the colour. Cross Climates as well. Can do a VIN decode if you want? I was curious as to the right-hand stalk. Can't be CC as that's on the left.
I can't find anything fun on the datacard or in the (admittedly US) manual for it.ETA: Found it, it's the voice control for the COMAND system - pull the stalk etc.

Plus points are the heated comfy seats, fab turning circle, 35-40 mpg, working cruise (sorry Woody), loud stereo (with yellow speaker cones), and air of couldn't give a fig about anyone else on the road.
Given the £400 price I'm over the moon. Still below 65000 miles from new.
