Barging has taken an upgrade today, and I have completed one of my new years resolutions early. I was amazed earlier this week when this came up for sale, my (almost) perfect spec G Wagen! SWB, RHD, Nautic Blue and Grey MB tex and not heavily "upgraded". It has the wheels from an equal age 500, which is a nice and awful dark glass, which will be binned first thing in the morning.

It's not without issues (naturally), a not fully sealed sunroof and some typical M103 head-gasket concerns but nothing too scary. The drivetrain, diffs and low range all work perfectly and in the 250 miles I've done this afternoon it's been as good as gold. It's like driving a big W124 - deeply impressive. Refined, smooth, quiet, 0 transmission whine like an old most old 4x4s and comfortable. Another moment of reflection: Mercedes Benz made the best cars in the world at one time.

I love it!

First dibs if you ever want to move that on? It's perfect!

That is a handsome thing (obviously ignoring our self-imposed thread budget).

That car, plus something legendary and with lasting appeal like, say, a Lexus SC430* would make a fine garage.

Quick in with the first dibs, I like it! Haha. Although I can see this one sticking around, I always say that...

Sadly the thread budget has been sadly bypassed, although it would have been exceptionally nice if it was sub £5k! I'm expecting it'll go through about that in the first year maintenance, so does that count?

An SC430 would, I'm sure, be a fine automobile, but imo it's a bit too Florida retirement village. a 500SL-32 has to be the way forward, especially in Claude Monet spec!

Sorry, I’m not normally a circling vulture but that just stands out to me as a special car. My ML will do for now anyway smile

I certainly wouldn’t blame you for keeping that long term, it’s a lovely thing. Congratulations!

It's okay you come in under the thread "Mercedes" clause smile

Not at all, I’m glad to know I’m potentially not the only lunatic daft enough to buy a highly complex 25 year old German tank that I intend on using every day. I’m sure there will be plenty of updates as my elation inevitably turns to despair!

0a, thank you for the implementation of the “Mercedes Clause”, a worthy note to be added to almost anything I post on here. Although, the occasional B** might slip through the net.

Having visited CDG in person I can confirm that this is the case. I was very surprised that he sold me the SL without first having a replacement golf course car lined up.

Often used, and allows 190s, r129s and so on into the thread regardless of car format and budget. Also see the little known 'French Car' clause which is one of the few ways that a diesel car is permissible here (eg Citroen C6 2.7, any CX etc).

Seeing a 3k L322 tomorrow, faults read:

- Driver's thorax airbag,
- Left bank lambda

Seller also admits cam chain rattle after long journeys.

Am I mad for seeing it? It's a 2003 4.4 Vogue with SpeckledJim juice in the rear wheel well.

I kinda figure I could spend thread max and still get whacked with big bills anyway, and at least these are known!

I’m a fan of that, I desperately want an SM, although it won’t happen because they’re silly money, all broken and there aren’t enough brave pills in the world to even give it more than a moment’s consideration. C6 though, mmmmmmm......

I am determined that 2019 is going to be a year of zen-filled joy of peace and love. But until that moment kicks-in, the two of you can fk right off. biggrin

smile Golf clubs fit very well in the Honda Legend and Lexus SC430 - could be quite the fleet.
