Going to look at a Mercedes W211 E320 estate tomorrow. '54 reg with the 5 speed box. 140k miles but looks like straight honest car.

Haven't bought a car in 12 years!

Green or black pump?

Make sure everything works if fitted, and the front suspension should be nice and quiet. They're robust cars though, and not difficult to fix it obtain parts for.

I had a D2 S8 that was immaculate with all buttons completely pristine and legible.

I currently have a FFRR L322 5.0 s/c with approaching 120k on the clock and there's nothing illegible about the start/stop button.

Do you wear sandpaper gloves?
No, since it has never happened to me in a car that wasn't a Discovery 4!

It's quite a common complaint. This is how it starts. Mine looked worse but I don't have a picture of it

Black. Petrols seem very thin on the ground.

Like the cut of this 2005 C320 Avantgarde's jib, even in silver/ black with short ticket, £1295

https://www.gumtree.com/p/mercedes-benz/mercedes-b...

Faster? This C32 with chav plates is still about at £3395

https://www.gumtree.com/p/mercedes-benz/mercedes-b...

Bigger, smoother, still chav just in the alloy department? C215 CL500 with small list of jobs is only £1800...

£23,990. Clear typo. It'll be a while before these really drop into budget smile

No way that not a typo. If it wasn't they could sell 1000s at that price.

745i time!

So, I don't use it that much, and most of the time it's just pottering around town. It shouldn't be too surprising that when I went to start it today it was dead as a dodo, clicking, flashing all warning lights, errors all over the shop.
A quick jump start later and she was back to normal, so I thought I'd best go on a good 30min drive to get some charge back in... And it drove perfectly, no misfiring, ever so slightly judder at idle but only because I was looking out for it.

What's that all about then? The only thing I can think is that it adapted to the old cam sensors missreading as best as possible, and now I have the new ones in, it needed the battery to die to properly reset the adaptions back to standard. It's a bit of a stretch but I have no other explanation! I'll see how it is at the weekend.
Temperamental and extremely unpredictable, other than if it's going to happen it'll be within the first few minutes of starting.

IIRC e65Ross replaced the battery in 2015 so it's not an old one.
Yes, I replaced it, 2015 sounds about right but can't remember exactly I'm afraid.
I'm sure it was 2009/10 I replaced it so 5-6 years seems to be the life expectancy. I suppose the battery life depends heavily on how the car is being used.
Family tree group hug!
Why I love this thread!

One for me, the Touring

Ref the V12 E32 above: I like the "There is for sale...". Makes a change from the "Here we have..."

I bet the correct wheels would be pricey if you could find any

The OM648 is a great engine, I think it's the best bit about mine.

Make sure you have a listen/poke under the engine covers to check for leaky injector seals (the "black death") - any stench of diesel in the engine bay, walk away or barter hard. The seals themselves aren't hard to do, but extracting the injectors after 15 years can be very tricky. I killed one of the two I had to do.
