I know it's wrong to be a concours nit, that garage queens are just big Matchbox toys for sad rich men trying to fill the void and that cars are made to be driven. But an early W201 in those colours with 9000 miles.. yes please!!
Can we have the next barge meet at JOB's house please? The Man has finally assented to take the Scatmobile in for a good going-over so late March is a good time.
I'm not usually in for that whole scene either, I usually attend the MB Concours but park in the spectators thing and don't worry about the brake dust I've accumulated on route. I might enter the 16v in pleb class this year but I'll probably come last. Can we have the next barge meet at JOB's house please? RE Barge Meet at JOBs house. One nearby would be great - somewhere around Chatsworth. There are some fabulous pubs, and roads around here should it be of interest I'm happy to arrange....
In other news: if anyone fancies a bit of really big barge, high mileage, mid 2000s Benz-ness, a trader pal of mine has just taken a 2006 W221 S600 as PX. One owner from new, FMBSH, 212k miles and naturally every toy under the sun. It all works, has no ABC faults and drives well, would annihilate a 997 C4 in a straight line (trust me), but has an engine mount vibration when cold. £3k, if you dare.

This would possibly be convenient for me - I can combine with a visit to the old folks down south, and love this part of the world.

I'm going to treat the 745i to a headlight restoration, there is a man local to me who comes out and does it in your driveway. I tried using one of the DIY kits, but it made bugger all difference.
I'll post some before and after shots if folks are interested.
Be interested to hear how long it takes him to do it and how much the rate is as well. Maybe a sneaky video for a minute or two on your phone through the net curtains? Then we'd all know how he does it because I'd be surprised if he does it all by hand. Unless, of course, his trade name is Popeye's Lens Restorations Ltd.I'll post some before and after shots if folks are interested.
I've done this a couple of times now on E39 lights and it's a horrible, laborious chore. The first time it took me over a day of hand wet sanding and polishing to do two lenses. The second time I was more confident...which was offset by more impatient and the results weren't as good as it's a task that doesn't reward impatience.
The materials I got in the Meguiar's Kit were too 'mild'. The initial grit pads they supply are not really aggressive enough and the early stages are the most important I think.

I’ve done it on a few of my cars now, always amazes me how Much difference it makes to the cars appearance. I use the 3M kit and a battery drill, always impressed with the results. Just take your time to mask the surrounding paintwork well in case the pad skips off the headlight, don’t forget to put a UV block on afterwards to help prevent the lens yellowing due to UV damage.

Re Chatsworth meet, there’s the Devonshire arms at Beeley - big car park and decent pub, could follow it with a barge cruise through some of the Peak District. When suits?

Morning WorldBoss, that’s great. If you want to email me my email address is , I don’t know why my PH messages don’t seem to work but I’ve had that problem before.
Thanks, Email sent (don't know if you want to leave it up on the forum, spam bots love an unprotected email). I think you have to turn on PMs in one of the sub menus, it's a pain in the bum.Hopefully I'll be firing up my Xentry unit and finding my shell loyalty card soon
