RE: Brabus SL800: Showpiece of the Week
Discussion
Not to my taste although I'd love the engine and running gear in the SL63 I had. On the subject of Brabus I was having my CL65 serviced at MB World Brooklands the other day and my car was parked next to this behemoth. I don't normally like vehicles like this but I found myself drooling over it for hours, the interior for a Brabus was superb with dark red quilted leather inserts etc. The wheel arch extensions were carbon fibre and it looked every bit of their ridiculous price the standard of engineering was sublime.
Don’t see how this SL is worth 300k, I mean, it’s not a classic, nor will it ever be, just a modified SL65 and that’s fine, but when you want 300k for it and haven’t driven it since you bought it, you have to wonder how the person got so rich by applying that logic?
800bhp is a big number but is it relative to the car & engine? 6.0 twin turbo V12? Hmmm don’t think so!

Sort of appeals, but only sort of.
Really doesn't when you can have a low mileage SLR for fifty grand less

There's one of these Brabus tweaked SL's with 800 horses for sale over here in CH too, with a hideous body kit but a more restrained interior.

"Brabus has to be one of those, thanks to a long standing reputation for high quality four-wheeled lunacy with a three-pointed star on the nose."
No they don't. They have a B on the front because Brabus is standalone company and aren't allowed to put the three-pointed start on their cars.

Did you decide that seemed like it could be true? What's that on the steering wheel? No they don't. They have a B on the front because Brabus is standalone company and aren't allowed to put the three-pointed start on their cars.

I have a Brabus, it has the three pointed star, could you explain that one? No they don't. They have a B on the front because Brabus is standalone company and aren't allowed to put the three-pointed start on their cars.

On the front, or on the airbag on the wheel? AFAIK Brabus don’t make their own airbags (too expensive) and as a stand-alone manufacturer can’t put the star on the outside of cars they make.If someone buys a Merc and then sticks on Brabus bits and tuning box it isn’t a Brabus. The cars Brabus actually manufacture are classed as Brabus and covered by a Brabus warranty not by MB.
Hence the car in the pics in the article has a big B on the nose, not a star.

Previously I had an Alpina, and it had BMW badges. None of them come from the factory with Alpina badges, despite having their own Alpina VIN and type approval

DVLA beg to differ, it seems.HML has exactly two cars listed with "Brabus" as the manufacturer.
There's lots of photos online of a full-house-looking Brabus G-class, registered 67B. It comes back on Vehicle Enquiry as a Mercedes-Benz. As do LF61ZMU and WR14SBU, also apparently Brabus G-classes.
Looks like real Brabii are outnumbered by fakes, eh?
