Alwasy seems so evocative these special edition Italian Super/Hypercars blessed with the surname of an old Italian chap, there was the Lamborghini Balboni and probably some others.

Wonder if McLaren are going to do one named after English blokes, they have the Senna, would it seem right to have a 720S with your surname ?

Do the italian ones sound as exotic in Italy or is it like a Bugatti Chiron Dave Smith ?

Reminds me of the later Ferrari 308s, rather then just tack a "32v" at the end of it to announce, they are called "Quattrovalvole", which sounds very exotic and exciting

Doubt there is any language so suited to making things sound special as Italian

Also, McLaren 720s "Lando Norris" hehe doesnt quite have the same ring to it does it?

Just like Quattroporte sounds very sexy, but just means four doors.

Basically anything sounds sexy in Italian,

Like Busso for the V6 Alfa engine,

Didnt realise that it translates to "Knock" though !

Do they say its Busso-ing its tits off in Italy ?

Busso is the last name of the guy who designed though isnt it? Like the Fiat twincam "Lampredi" engines? Can you imagine gushing about the fact your cossie escort has a "hall" engine in it? hehe

back in the 90s when McLaren had the F1 Jaguar the xj220, ferrari the f50 and bugatti the EB110 I dreamed of a lotto win to buy one....this on the otherhand just does not do it for me. Sure its amazing out of this world even I just don't feel the passion I do for say the 918 or La Ferrari etc.
Same here. I think the Carrera GT was the last supercar I got a bit wobbly over. Even the 918, as astounding as it was, didn't do it for me in the same way.

Worked well enough for Jack Griffith.

Be interesting to see how much weight can be saved from the body panels given they’re already carbon fibre?

not a massive amount imo, the obvious ones are the seats (heavy) glass (very heavy as they shield lots of noise) and sound insulation.

Stereo, speakers, aircon as well? All heavy.

I suspect more will be into adaptive aero? Maybe a shorter ratio box?

Yet another car which the manufacturer should be applauded for making by petrolheads, yet, on a supposed motorist enthusiast website, it's full of people moaning because they just can't understand the USP of a car. Same with just about any thread with a new car these days. Someone moaning on the McLaren 600LT because it's not quite long enough, people moan about the Senna because (like with this) they can't understand why someone would want it, people moan about how a performance car is too expensive and therefore pointless.

I think this is a great product from Bugatti....fair play. I'd rather a standard Chiron, but if someone wants an uber GT which is a bit more aggressive then fair enough for them biggrin

The "Stephenson" rear spoiler sounds a bit fancier.

Its not a car aimed at any petrolhead, and precisely 0 members of this forum will ever own one, or even a regular chiron.

Its USP is that it is more expensive, and thus top-trumps against your fellow saudi oil-sheik who owns a regular chiron. These cars wont be actually driven on a track by someone who appreciates the engineering. Making a car with the main USP being that its more expensive sounds incredibly cynical to me, not something that should be applauded.

If you want cars that should be applauded but get an unreasonable amount of stick here, look at the GT86, a car built with fun driving and modability in mind, and actually purchasable by the people here

Not even a Jay Leno - a true petrolhead? I could see him buying one.

Wait to be proved wrong.

Body panels are insignificant in terms of total weight of the car.

The biggest weights are the powertrain and the body structure. The powertrain is Carry-Over, so it will be the body structure and the NVH packs, and the unnecessary ancillaries that will go:

- much thinner glass
- simpler seats
- no mega hifi

They'll probably get 150-200kg out of it, maximum. But with 1500PS, what does it matter?

They won't get anywhere near that much.

The only point is to be lighter, not by much, so the owner can one up their mates
