This to me is rallying Nirvana and I'd travel many miles to see... Or rather hear these 911 GT3 rally cars at full Rev's slipping, sliding, jumping and crashing over bumps!...
I agree but I hope they come with a neck brace!

Anyone know what the rules for GT class are? As in how close to standard it is meant to be? Even with going on major diet and significant suspension and gearbox changes I can't see it getting near current WRC cars. Looks and sounds great though.

R-GT is the future of rallying.
It really isn’t, the class has been around for 10 years is still a class most fans don’t even realise exists.
This says more about how the sport is promoted currently than it does about the class itself.

Of course they'll never be near the WRC cars, because of 4WD and massive budgets to begin with. But that's not the point of these R-GT cars. On the contrary, being slower, less efficient and more spectacular makes them so right :-)

"All cars must be fitted with a restrictor whose diameter is determined by the FIA in order to achieve a weight/power ratio of 3.4 kg/hp"

So a 911 GT3 must weight 1700kg or be restricted. There's something wrong in racing rules when cars have to be castrated in order to be authorized to compete.

Racing cars should be both lighter and more powerful than production versions. It's what's made them special and interesting to watch.

It's so obvious that the FIA don't want them to compete with WRC cars.

What with the sound? It's weird for a flat 6.

It's been done before, but with a proper car and and driver (that's not to say Dumas isn't a proper driver) but I'd question whether the GT4 is "proper". The engine certainly isn't, nor is the gearbox from my perspective ....

2 questions for the cognoscenti..

Foam in the doors.. Is this side impact protection?

The extra front light binnacle/carbuncle?

Standard mandated kit, hence ugly as ****?

Why so, in a world of tiny LED's?

Yes. 1700kg is just a joke. This I find ridiculous. Hardly any encouragement for prospective entrants. Hello, FiA, wake up. Porsche are showing interest in another of your series - sort this rule/reg out, sharpish. Why you want to enter if you can't really be competitive. Nobody really expects them to beat WRCars - but they should be able to get near an R5 on Tarmac (if they were allowed).

Anything that brings more interest to the WRC has got to be good.

With the white paint and the lamp pod there is something reminiscent of the Ford RS200. I was 15 when they came out and remember drooling over one in the Ford Dealer in Bedford.

Yes, I suspect the foam is side impact protection. WRC cars run it too.

As for the lamps, a traditional style lamp can still perform better than LEDs in certain circumstances. Having spoken to a couple of people, a combination of both works well, as spots are apparently still better at providing a focused light for further down the road.
