I might need to relocate my log cabin about 20m in our garden It seems a faff to dismantle the whole thing and rebuild it as it’s 6m x 4m so would be a big job. It can’t just be lifted up as it’s too big, and structurally it would probably break.
Any ideas?

Roll it on some scaffold poles or similar.

If it was a smaller lighter shed, but it’s proper heavy. The walls are 40mm think and has an insulated floor and roof.....

Dismantle, you're going to end up breaking the joints if you try to move in one piece.
I've got a 5 x 5 of similar construction and if i remember correctly the delivery note said 2.8 tonne.

Either use a Chinook or else you could shock it over with a lot of very carefully placed low explosive.

What's the floor construction ?

If it was mine I'd be rolling it on scaffold poles as suggested

However I did recently try to relocate an old chicken coop with my V8 Jeep - it wasn't entirely successful

(I wasn't overly concerned about it)

Thanks, I think it would need a V8 to move it. The floor is made up of tongue and grove planks.

I meant the underside - ie if there is a nice solid floor structure of say 6x2 (I know it won't be that large) then I'd happily lever it up onto poles and roll it

We moved a 2T safe out of a jewelry shop with ease on scaffold poles (it was my father's shop)

It's all going to come down to structure - has it been built as a self-contained structure, like a full box, with the floor properly and solidly tied to the walls, then just sat on the ground? Or has it been built from the ground up, with the floor not really structural?

If the latter, then trying to shift it is going to be a nightmare.

I reckon you're staring at three or four days hard but fun work taking it back to basics and re-building.

Label the planks, as I bet they've swollen and shrunk to fit each other and won't easily go back in a different order.

If you've got 10 strong lads you might be able to keep the roof intact?

Maybe move your border/fences & house 20m instead?

As said before, it depends on how it's been put together. If it's on decent floor joists, it'll lift onto a Hiab lorry then off again onto a new ready prepared base.

Thanks for the feedback gents. The floor is not a structural part of the cabin, so I think it will have to be taken apart. A teleporter would be the best solution......

You could bolt some serious cross-bracing in place for the move, I s'pose.

I've got a much smaller structure to move and I keep looking at ways to do it.
It's a wooden "fort" up on posts, about 4 foot off the ground and about 2m x 2m.
I want to re use it as a shed and can't decide whether to try and dismantle it (then take it to the tip as it's never going back together right) or cut the legs and lift it with a fork lift (then take it to the tip as it's collapsed).

Pic to follow.

Good luck to the OP with whichever decision you take.

Controlled Semi-Demolition!

Cut through the legs at the top (and bottom if the legs are sunk into the ground). Tie the bottom of each leg to your car (or, preferably, someone else's car). Leave about 10 metres slack.

Drive away.

Return to survey the scene, and graciously accept the eager applause from your awestruck family, and wife who never loved you more.

Pics now attached

Speckled Jims idea sounds like a great one after an evening on the beer,,,,although the sawing through the legs bit is what I have in mind. I was thinking of trolley jacks on a car transporter.....actually probably another for the evening of beer. Could sell tickets!
