Looking to replace the kitchen to create a kitchen diner. I have been playing with DIY Kitchens tools and lookign to maximise bench space and keep things practically near to each other. Oven and microwave/grill house in the tall unit to the left of the hob.

Any thoughts on the design here, suggestions to improve?

I think that design looks pretty poor I am afraid!

Would you not be better nominating one side as kitchen and one side as dining? I would imagine you could get a table, island (if you want one) and then a row of units left to right. You might even be able to get a small seating area above the kitchen in the window area.

It looks far too spread out at the moment.

Thanks, never designed one before so appreciate any suggestions. Will have a play around and see what can be done.

^^^^

Massive waste of space from the looks of it... get an Island in there and then set up a breakfast area or a dining area if you dont have one.

Can we see the 3D?

Having a little play with a potential island and keeping the space to the left of the screen for a table, its fairly narrow there and don't want to block the door but might be manageable.

Will try and share the 3D once I work out how.

I agree.
Also agree with the island - seems to be crying out for one.
With that layout you will end up running around the kitchen with a massive space in the middle.
Which of those walls are external ones? What are the plumbing and gas constraints?
If we could see the 3D views then I am sure you would get plenty of suggestions.
Have you picked a kitchen unit range yet or colours? Some of the units you have on the plan seem to be the wrong sizes to fit the available space as well.

Flip the island 90 degrees and make it 900 or 1200 deep. Add bar stools.

Consider extraction routes with hobs on islands. You've got (presumably) a steel above it currently.

Orientation of that island looks 90 deg out for the design - try it vertically.

Agree with flipping the island 90 degrees. Provides proper separation of the kitchen and dining areas.

2nd attempt is much improved. As above, make the island bigger and get bar stools for overall better usability.

Also count how many units you use at the moment and be sure to incorporate at least that many.

I'm not aware of anyone who does it but surely someone designs kitchens for a living on Pistonheads. This is one of those times I would happily pay someone a few hundred to benefit from their experience.

Exterior walls are to the right and top right as you look. Not sure I can accommodate an island that is any larger without keeping the distances between the walls and units sufficient.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of islands. Thinking a peninsular end on to that sticking out bit of wall.

What about something like this?

How about having this instead of an island. Use it as a breakfast bar or cupboard space or both. Either way there'll be bench space. I remember some kitchen designer blathering on about having some separation between diner and kitchen.

That's it, I'd stick the cooker down that end too, so it's close to the sink. You could also use some wall units as base units where the breakfast bar is if you want extra cupboard space. Also gives you a big wide top for serving up on. We don't bother sitting on stools when there's a perfectly good table to use.
