Hi All,

Before I take the plunge; looking to get a quick take on 1st Central Car insurance, what is the general consensus? Good? Bad?
They are showing to be the cheapest for me at renewal but I don't want the cheapest if its a sub par product

More than are next being 100 pounds more
Privlidge & hastings are after that being a further 100 more

Thanks

They get mixed reviews on Trust Pilot, seems they are either very good or very bad.

Been with them for 2 years they negotiated the second year and gave me the comparison price rather than their renewal quote

I find them super easy to deal with, you can deal with them entirely online if you want, but they do have a call center should you need it.

I've not claimed yet, but assume they will be ok.

Yes they do but when I checked compared to the other companies I have quotes from they seem to be better. I always had more than as a good company but they are "poor" on trustpilot and other websites.

I tend to take reviews with a pinch of salt too so wanted to come here and see what peoples thoughts are

Like all insurance - good when they are taking your money. bad when they are paying out "their" money...

Not claimed, but had a policy with them - amendments etc were easy, answered the phone quickly.

From experience, don't go with Hastings.

Not all are like that though.

Yeah 3 years on the trot with them.

Helpful when I had problems and good rates.

I am with them for one of my cars at the moment. The renewal was cheaper than the previous year so i kept with them.

Haven't had to claim yet so cant comment on that side of things, but amendments can be done online which is nice.

I was with them last year, couldn't complain whilst with them. However their renewal price/process was very st, hence me no longer being with them.

I used them for a few years in a row, I found their renewals price was lower than what I could get with them via the comparison sites, and found their renewal was lower than the previous year.

The only time I contacted them was when someone went in to the back of my car and they referred me to the 3rd party's insurer. Effectively taking them out of the loop.

The only reason I'm not with them this year was that Tesco was offering a better price ....

I was with them a few years ago. As above, the renewal process was ste so I ended up going elsewhere.

Based on the issues I had with renewal, I'm not sure I'd have much faith in the event of a claim.

People saying the renewal process being poor, can I ask what exactly was part of the poor experience. At the moment any policy I have had has been automated?

They're called Hastings because getting money out of them will be a battle.

I can't remember the ins and outs now, but basically they didn't send me a renewal. So I tried to contact them and couldn't.

No option to renew online, phones & emails not answered etc. etc. And never did manage to get proof of NCB out of them.

If they were that much agro over a renewal, what would they be like with a claim?

They might be better now but I wouldn't touch them again.

Im with Hastings as they were the cheapest out of the companies I've heard of, about 4th overall. Been ok but took ages getting through to the call center but all was good after that. Never made a claim.

I found them fine to deal with. My wife had a claim through them a few years ago and it was pretty hassle free. In that case it was very clear cut and the other party admitted fault - perhaps they're not as good with a less straightforward claim.

Two months for a windscreen change and being totally clueless with it being changed with their glass people. Even on a computer system, find no information about daily calls chasing for the replacement. Wife knew their first names after 4 weeks of calls. Putting a marker against my car as I had somehow claimed for 2 windscreens to be fitted on the same day, so basics in incompetence.Luckily in the time with them never had an accident claim and glad to be steered somewhere more reliable if it ever happens.

Second year I have been with them.
Renewal was easy, sent all the new price though ect.
But found someone else to be cheaper but didn’t covered as much, rang up and they dropped it £50 with no questions.
Changed my car and done that all online, took about 5 mins.
Quite good really.

I was with them a few years ago. No massive issues, just a bit slow to respond/do anything. They do seem to come up consistently and considerably cheaper when running quotes though.
