You are weighing the logical reasons for you, not absolute logic. It's subjective. You therefore cannot say another persons choice is illogical, just because it doesn't conform to your ideas/ideals.

I've had both estate cars and SUVs, although own neither now. For me, the 100% logical choice is an SUV between the two.
You can apply as you call it 'absolute logic' to things that are measurable. Otherwise the world wouldn't really work. When we're talking about the mass, dimensions or center of gravity these are not subjective.

So what you mean is that your subjective logic isn't the same as my subjective logic. That is to be expected isn't it?
I'm simply saying that SUV crowd's subjective logic doesn't convince me, and the objective part doesn't do much to help.

It is perhaps worth mentioning that no other car type generates this sort of discussion and controversy. It's the SUV/Crossover domain alone. From this I gather that many people completely don't get these things.

So you are agree with me? It's purely subjective. To say the purchase of an SUV is categorically and absolutely not logical is incorrect. Yes?

You don't like SUVs. It's allowed you know wink

It doesnt matter if you get it or not as its not your car. It only matters if the person who owns(or finance)it gets it.

Exactly, how boring would that be and why does everything have to hinge on what's better what's wrong with just liking something and buying it on that basis.

But I'm not gonna do that. Every SUV discussion looks the same. From time to time I bite hoping someone will be able to convince me, or at least offer a decent argument, but every time SUV owners/fans use the same arguments and fail to convince me SUVs are better than estates.

And this is because the SUV crowd tries to justify an illogical decision with logical argument. Or pick the specific circumstances where offroader/suv will be the better choice.
Funny thing is, the best argument you could use would be one not based on logic - just say "Because I want one". Just don't make mental gymnastics convincing yourself and (failing to convince) others that it is a logical choice.
Preferring a SUV to an estate is a totally logical choice for us for general family use (our specific circumstances) and despite not wanting one. And we also have an estate but the SUV is shorter, more practical, lighter, more comfortable. It won't generate the same lateral grip, granted, but for the intended use, that's of zero relevance so it's the logical choice. The estate does have its merits though, probably on longer trips as it has better NVH but it's difficult to logically justify it, not that I feel I need to convince anyone.
