Also all the comments comparing it to the likes of the M140i, RS3 and outgoing A45 are completely missing the point and show how out of touch some people on here are.
The M140i is end of life with no direct replacement, there will never be another 6-cylinder RWD 1-series. The M135i will return to take that position in the range albeit in xDrive form with a 4-cylinder unit offering similar power to this car.
The next A45 will become the flagship AMG version of the A-Class and will compete with the RS3, but technically speaking they're a generation apart
Its comparable to the M140i, yes, because they're at the same price point. The M140i is end of life with no direct replacement, there will never be another 6-cylinder RWD 1-series. Not comparable to the RS3 - and i dont think anyone here has? - as its at the level above on price / power with A45 & M2.

I don't like it. Even with 500hp for 25,000 pounds.
Ain't paying Mercs badge to look like a chav. That is what Bmw and Audi are for anyway.
Spray any car bright yellow, stick big black wheels on it and stick on spoilers and it would be "chav".Ain't paying Mercs badge to look like a chav. That is what Bmw and Audi are for anyway.
Its a marketing car and Merc are clearly pitching it at a younger market to whom those particular features appeal. A nice metallic grey, no aero kit and on 18s though....

Not really as there is a good chance by the time this goes on sale the M140i will likely have finished productionThe current 1-series has been on sale since 2011 and is now very dated. I loved my 2013 M135i but I wouldn't try and compare it to this, they're a generation apart.
The BMW equivalent will be the upcoming next generation M135i xDrive. This is very clearly aimed directly at that car!

They're both performance variants, are a similar price and (available as) 5 door hatchbacks.
Just because you dont subjectively see the comparison, doesnt mean there isnt one objectively.

Should keep the chav at heart happy
I take it "chav" now means "it doesnt appeal to me, therefore its chav" or can you really not see past the colour combination to the car beneath?Edited by Deep Thought on Wednesday 19th September 20:41
