All models of Golf are 9th on the most stolen list 2017. Behind C & E class Mercs, 3 series, M3, Range Rover, Range Rover sport, Land Rover discovery, X5.

All models?

That doesn't make sense. So all Golf model figures combined are behind stolen M3 figures....

Someone's stats are wrong.

I'd imagine the big stuff - Discovery, X5, other LR stuff - are going overseas.

Not much in the way of actual detail there. Not even a source for the figures.

That was May. But back in March, the Express had come up with... https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/926340/c... - from Tracker, apparently. Tracker's website doesn't have anything.
In August, Confused had https://www.confused.com/on-the-road/safety/uk-mos... - Tracker, again.
This month, the Sun has come up with https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/7172735/top-10-mos... - Colewood Automotive this time. Who? A digital marketing outfit.

I'm particularly amused by the thought that Golfs (all flavours, all ages) are somewhere behind Range Rover Autobiographies... Just one trim level!

Oooh, hold on. There is a press release on Tracker's website... from the end of May.
https://www.tracker.co.uk/tracker-hub/news/London-...
Still no actual numbers, but at least it seems to hint that it's just among their customers...

Sorry I take it back then. Without facts, it’s the Golf R. 100% theft rate. You’ll be car jacked before driving off the forecourt.

UK average weekly earnings now, £520. Not a big difference, is it?

I was earning around £343 a week working in a call centre in 2002. The same job would pay less than £400 a week now.

I've been killed by carjackers three times since I bought mine.

What kind of halfwit would pay 45k for a VW??
Drugs money
That's more likely to go on an S3 or RS3, or if doing more than low level well, something that's a more expensive equivalent of, or a good step above. Or most likely an expensive 4x4 box, powered by Ferrari or Mercedes (nee Ilmor), with handling by your F1 boutique of choice, of course smile;)

People will pay good or more than money for all sorts of strange things, sudden wealth of some degree, genuine wealth and a desire to seem to be invisible, or just plain old I want that one being just some reasons. Old people especially.

The discretion of a Golf should be underestimated. Ok, so the R and the GTI are theft magnets, but to most people they’re ‘just a Golf’ and bought because they are so invisible.

I can fully see a case where someone would want a fast, capable, well equipped, and low key car. A lot of clients I visits, are places where I wouldn’t want to turn up in anything flash, but a Golf R wouldn’t be noticed in a car park full of base model Golfs, Focuses, and Astras.
