Without choosing it, selecting it, clicking it, or even logging on to amazon today? I just got an email welcoming me to amazon prime. I have logged on and it’s not a spoof I have apparently just started amazon prime membership, at the moment on free trial and to start paying on 22nd October.

The only thing I’ve done is played capital radio today on my amazon echo.

I 100% have not opted to or chosen inadverntly or whatever amazon prime. So what gives? Anyone else had this?

Have you ordered anything recently?

Often it offers you "free delivery, with a free one month Amazon trial offer."

Clicking for free delivery, starts your trial.

There is a "I don't want free delivery or to start a free Amazon trial" option next to it, but it is much less obvious, and easy to miss.

(And guess how I know ☺)

Very common "tester" purchase for card fraudsters, I'd contact your card provider.

How? How does skimming a card mean that they can log into somebody's Amazon account and sign up for Prime?

Use the chat feature on Amazon - they'll tell you how it was signed up for and when and can also cancel it...

I have done that twice, it is easy to undo, but way too easy a trap to walk into when everything now is advertised with “free” delivery.

I am using Amazon less and less. EBay has far more transparent pricing.

ok panic over live chat were able to tell me that I (apparently) began the trial when using the fire stick. My missus was looking for movies on kodi which is loaded on fire stick so presumably also clicked on something on the actual amazon side of things.

Annoyingly I checked the fire stick earlier to see if I could see anything but it tells you st-all about if / when / how you signed up to prime. but it turned out it was. Only 'they' can see how you signed up.

You can set your Amazon account up so that it prompts you for a pin when ordering pay films / TV. When I first got my fire TV, I attempted to watch a film without realising it was non prime.
