Ok, I know it's only September but in the village we have a 6m tree. The lights are difficult to install on a big tree especially as we are not commercial installers.

What can anyone recommend for ease of use that can be used year after year?

Thanks.

Sorry couldn't resist.

6m is a fair height, to be working at, beyond the obvious tall ladder approach (which probably isn't all that useful for getting lights at the top) some form of mobile scaffolding tower would be my next guest but they aren't really that cheap, could you not tap a local business up for hire once a year to come and help decorate the tree?

Sounds like hiring a cherry picker would be the safest option.

As above, cherry picker sounds best, providing there is space around the tree for access.

Why not see if any local firms in construction or plant hire would be willing to lend a hand one weekend in return for a bit of PR in the local rag? The MEWP will be paid for on hire Mon-Fri so it's just transport and half shift or a couple of Ops.

Stick it on tressles, dress it horizontally, then raise to vertical when finished.

Leave the lights on all year.

4.8m hedge ladder for £425 and leave off the star?

How about a drone?

Could make it look like a mini santa sleigh for laughs.

Was thinking some lights like this that can be attached before it goes up.

A really long pole, swimming pole type, with a sort of U on the top.

Could you push the tree over, put the lights on, then winch it back up?

I use a length of roofing lath with a bit of thick wire cable tied onto it.

Cheap, simple and easy

Yep works well once you get to grips with it.

I tend to get a helper or two who slowly walk round and round the tree feeding out the lights as I hook the lights onto the branches.

I’d definitely be looking for a local crane/window cleaning company with access to a cherry picker and make a big deal of the positive PR they’d receive in the local paper, social media groups etc, even if you get it at a big discount everyone wins
