Hi,

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/cer...

I understand that ceramic coatings are all about the application - so a DIY kit could be problematic, or the Halfords stuff could not even be the real deal.

What do you think?

I don't see its worth discounting without trying it?

Auto Finesse make some ok products and for the money it may be worth buying a kit to test it out.

That said. There are other brands that make comparable items for similar money on the DIY ceramic front -

https://www.perfectlycleaned.co.uk/feynlab-ceramic...

https://www.perfectlycleaned.co.uk/gtechniq-csl-cr...

To name but two.

I have used both of those in different applications and both offered good results. No reason to suspect that Auto Finesse would be any worse, i wouldn't say one way or another without trying it.

The failure point will be in the application process though. Given the "high street" accessibility to this product. Alot of "weekend warriors" will see it as an easy step up and when it comes to a good finish 98% is in the prep work. Slapping it on in the wrong conditions with poor or little prep and likely you'd see poor results. But that can be said of any "DIY" ceremic kit you buy, be it for £hundreds vs £tens.

Reading up over on DWorld there is some question of longevity and of course as i've said above - application. Though the person to review so far (wheel kit) has had good things to say.

Perhaps i would argue that for only 12 months protection - you could get similar results with applying good prep work to paint and a good sealant like -

https://www.perfectlycleaned.co.uk/gtechniq-c2-v3-...

I've had the suggested 8 months protection out of this and it looks really glossy and is half the price of the Caramics kit and contains more so can afford to top it up after each maintenance wash.

Summary - plenty of like for like products at this price range. This appears an easier one to use but still requires a good level of detail and prep work (like all the others) It's USP seems to be the application. For the money, i don't see why it wouldn't perform but you could perhaps get the same results using different/easier to apply products for the same kind of money.
