It seems the local BMW owners now think it's cool to have the front indicators on as side lights all the time. I have now spotted 3 cars sporting this new wonderful fashion accessory and had another follow me tonight (no headlights just indicators). Is this a new thing that all the cool kids are doing?

Not 100% sure but I think mine are like that as standard on my 545i at night.

Front number plate in windscreen is still the ultimate sign that a chav/bellend is behind the wheel and should be avoided.

Car bra; don't get it, someone would rather a big bit of obvious vinyl over the front of their car than the slight possibility of stone chips!

The one I see on a regular basis is on an old Astra with knackered paintwork and alloys, it really is a wreck but I presume the front of the bonnet is spot on..

Well they all had the M-Power colours painted on the grille, so they need another way of standing out..

Anything to be 'indivijewel', hey?

What are the VW boys doing these days? I rarely see any 'dubbers' anymore. They were the ultimate dheads with stretched tyres and stickers and upturned exhausts.

Anyone with one of those st tinted number plates or number plate lights brighter than their headlights. Guaranteed to be an insufferable bell end.

Their mods might not be tasteful to some, but good for them for modding their cars.
Don't most of us car nuts do that?

There aren't many of those left on PH. Its more for people to berate others these days, just like in this thread...

Tinted number plates innit.

Clear sign you’re an absolute bellend.

I had the indicators enabled as sidelights a la USA spec on my GTi pirelli, they still flashes when indicating.

Not sure what your issue is OP?

Oh and it's never failed MOT.

People like to look a bit different. Yanks code them off and we code them on.

Not a new thing really. I had a 5 series E60 in 2003 with orange LEDs in the lights. Pretty cool back then !

I didn't realise the orange sidelights thing was a mod. More just that some manufacturers include Fed Spec side marker lights in non-USA market cars.

We had several Volvo's with them. My current and recent Land Rovers have spaces for the lights blanked out at the front but the rear lights include Fed Spec red side markers.

The orange indicator on all the time is nothing new

In America it’s what they use as DRLs

I think the current knob fad is tinted or smoked number plates

Its a good point, but when the modifications hinder the cars driveability or void your insurance then no.
