Fabulous cars, but can make Ferrari and Lambo running costs look cheap!

Currently restoring an Evo1 which has been in the family for 18years. I dread to think what it is costing, but worth every penny when I give it back to my Dad who has no idea I am doing it.

Prices are mad and people are dreaming for some of the asking prices.

Being a pedant, wasn’t the first Evolution model known just as that, the Evolution and not Evolution 1?
So, from the Integrale onwards it was Integrale 8v, Integrale 16v, Evolution, Evolution 2, followed by the limited edition and final edition models (various).
And out of interest, the colour Giallo Ginestra means ‘Broom yellow’ iirc, not as exotic sounding in English is it? A bit like Quattroporte meaning the less than exotic sounding ‘four door’..

If I remember correctly, the Evo was christened Evo by journalists and fans. It was just known as The Integrale. The limited editions were based on both Evo and Evo 2. The Club Italia one pictured were Evo 1's in a dark blue although it looks black and 15 were made. They had plaques in the centre console and as Italians are suspicious, there was no number 13 meaning the plaques went up to no: 16.
I may be wrong about limited edition Lancias, but its 17 not 13 that has superstitions attached to it in Italy.
Never heard that to be honest despite being of Italian descent. Saying that, my dad always stated that 4 is unlucky as that is the number of sides a coffin has and never take flowers to someone in hospital as they're meant for the cemetery.

Whoa, this is getting a tad morbid eh? smile
It is a bit morbid & superstitious for a car website.

The nugget of information regarding 17 being seen as unlucky in Italy comes from watching Football Italia on Channel 4 back in the day.

Tried to buy one new in the day (1988) but couldn’t. Was fortunate to be able to buy tax free but the dealers weren’t interested in the hassle as they didn’t have enough to fulfill normal demand. Ended up buying a Mk2 16V Golf GTI Special instead.

I had mine looked after by John Whalley in Bishops Stortford.

My first invoice for "some work" ran to three sides of A4. One of the cheaper items was a replacement HF/elephant badge at £35.00.

Be interested in pics of your restro in due course...

I had a std Mk2 GTI in the early 90s and adored it. Then I bought an Integrale (8vKat, which has all the 16v mechanicals & bodywork but an 8v engine). Interesting comparisons to be had, mostly lost in the mists of time. Suffice to say I've kept the Integrale.

I've no love for the usual tired stripey alcantara seating & am glad I found one with far classier leather Recaros.

One day one will be sat in the garage alongside my Clio V6.

Paid a visit up to Walkers a few weeks ago. Had a good chat regarding what I was looking for and what they would advise.

Saying they were helpful would be a huge understatement.

If you’re a Vampire wink

Anyway, on to the subject at hand. It really is a shame Fiat pulled the plug regarding R&D for what may have been the Evo 3. Loved the Viola prototype.

Ran a red Evo2 for a few years in the early 2000's, while my 'daily driver' was a clapped out Skoda Rapide! I'll never forget the traction out of wet roundabouts. Was serviced by that knowledgeable old boy who ran a Lancia spares emporiumnear Kennington/ Elephant & Castle. Name escapes me but thought he retired to Corsica and sadly expired soon after.

Seems to be a misconception of what they're worth. If you want to sell an evo2 you have to sell around the 40k mark. That's not a lot considering inflation, rarity, rally history, competence, looks, driving enjoyment...
Compared to some other classics they look like bargains.

6, a kid and a bottom, which may prove to be apt as that is where the prices can drop if interest rates change etc (that’s a subject mulled over recently on here by people with bigger brains than I !)
Personally I don’t see the sense in £20k+ Escort Mexico’s and £50k Lancias
Dealers are artificially pushing the prices upwards, I wonder how many of the cars they advertise actually sell for what they are asking and how many get pushed around other dealers.

Quick Google search.. escort mexico 66k. Hmmm... Integrale is pure work of art. I like the escort but 66k? That's the fordy market. Prices hiked up by 70s throw back moustaches and medallions. Cosworths just as bad from ex max power magazine chavs trying to relive their memories from days past in car parks blasting rave music popping acid tabs dressed in designer track suits. Just having a laugh...

One day I hope to have the pressing problem of whether to take the Delta Integrale or Alfa SZ to the shops.
To the shops, take the Delta - it's a lot more practical. smile

But if you're just going out to enjoy a drive, definitely take the SZ. thumbup
And you'd say that because...? smile

It's just dawned on my that my current car has a tenuous connection between the two; it's an Alfa that *I think* has a 4wd system based on that in the
Integrale. That's a close enough association for me!
