I read the Autocar road test.

What do you think is a realistic on the road price and why?

Faster and better handling than a F488? Sounds seriously appealing. What do you wear, motorbike leathers? Do you have to use a helmet, or is a Biggles style balaclava and goggles better? Is there anywhere to stow an overnight t bag?

People have spec'd the 3.5 to over £100k, but I think that a realistic starting price on the road will be £50k and easy to push that a lot higher. Having said that, I've not seen a price list and I'm not even sure one exists.

On a long run I'll use a helmet, but goggles work well enough. Ski or yacht clothing works well enough, it just needs to be warm and waterproof.

I'll never get bored of driving my Atom 3. I love that it's a car that wants to kill you.

How does it set about trying to kill you? I thought the handling was exquisite.

The list price is £39,995. What do you add to an exposed frame to take it to £100k?

Everything is an option. The list price will be "basic" brakes, suspension, wheels, bell cranks etc. no carbon goodies, no baffled sump, no polished exhaust, no brake bias adjuster.

On the Atom 3/3.5 for example, off the top of my head, Dymag wheels are over £3K, Carbon front and rear wings are around £2K each, another £2K if you want individual carbon seats on runners, not sure how much to upgrade to 10 way adjustable Bilstein shocks but the Ohlins TTX option is around £6K, Sadev box I believe is north of £16k, supercharger option maybe £8k, 350bhp 3.5R upgrade close to £10k, then you've got other goodies like carbon mudguards, carbon headlight/indicator covers, Alcon brakes, aero wishbones, side panels, towing eyes, plumbed in fire extinguisher, battery cut off switch, windscreen and god knows what else. I don't even think the handbrake is "standard" as many Atoms never see the public road

The expensive options on the 3 include a supercharger, that's about £6k, Sadev sequential box, £22k, aerofoils, aero shaped wishbones, the 3.5 has sidepods for charge cooling, etc etc but it's a long time since I've looked at a price list so don't know how much they are.

Handling, it's a rear engined car that's almost square and has very high power to weight. On a track it's a delight, but the limit comes on very very quickly. It's also very high, so if you're just pottering in the car you won't get near it, but the car demands to be used.

What's the standard manual box like - I love PDK and DCT and that stuff, but I yearn for a nice slick short shift manual box.

I have just received the list of options for the Atom 4 - wow it looks like you can get to a £75k Atom with very little trouble.

Does anyone have a view on the must have/desirable/fripperies options?

Almost essential I'd suggest:
Frame colour
Road registration
Limited slip diff
Aero Screen
Insurance Tracker

If your budget can stretch further, some less essential, but worthwhile:
Baffled Engine Oil Sump
Sport Brake Package Front
Sport Brake Package Rear
Quick Release Steering Wheel
12v. Auxillary feed with Cigarette Lighter Type Socket
Locking Fuel Cap
Towing Eye Kit Front (road use)
Battery Optimiser/Trickle Charger

With those done, I'd consider the bigger brakes, handbrake (for MOT), adjustable suspension etc. all depending on personal tastes, intended use and budget.

Agree with most of those (QR wheel I can't say I've missed though).

I'd add stainless steel fixings & foot rests

I am struggling to get mine to spec under £60k and that feels like I’m being sensible with the options.

I would be interested to see what everyone has selected options wise, as this is the first Atom I will have owned.

I ordered mine back in July the day before Goodwood and it was an 18 month waiting list back then!

Is it really a 3 year wait?

I guess that'll be great for residuals, but I might be broke or dead by then!

How does it work financially out of interest; stage payments? Or just a deposit and they call you closer to the time to check you still want it?
