So you are having a pop at people for buying pointless cars, yet you own a pointless car yourself?

An Elise is effectively a grown ups toy, like any other 'sports' car. I love sports cars and if people choose to buy them, good luck to them and I'm sure they'll really enjoy the ownership experience. Same as this RR - Its all about the ownership experience. Some like a true sporty drive, some like a luxury drive with a pinch of compromised sportyness thrown in.

It's really not that difficult to see the attraction in many types of vehicles, no matter what your own personal favourites are.

If you want speed and handling then a sports car is better. If you want luxury and comfort then most luxury saloon cars are much better.

Most good pharmaceutical traders use taxis when working, this would be a weekend toy for them.
Always makes me smile though when I pass the house of a well known ( to those that know) chap in Liverpool, it's a very modest terrace that has parked outside, at present, a bright blue one of these ( not this new version though) a white Cayenne,a black new Q8 and of course a taxi.
The only thing I would say about these and other Overfinch cars is that the exhausts sound epic when given the beans.
Also that a fully restored 570 is on my lottery list too........

The point is that buyers of certain marques are. To deny segments of the market are fashionable is a little odd. Colours, styles, types, interiors - fashion influences all of these.

But I want a single car to do all those things, like an SVR.

Point 1 - I haven't and won't be.

Point 2 - They have a negative impact on plenty of other people. Heavier than they need to be (impacting crash survive-ability for people in more normal size cars), taller than they need to be (restricting forward vision for people in normal size cars), and wider/longer than they need to be (meaning that visits to the supermarket, or any other car park become a pain with so many of them around). Yes trucks, vans, buses etc are all bigger/heavier too but with that size comes a useful purpose.

What's more they're just so FAKE. I mean if you're not even going to go off road why by an SUV?

When I was in Australia a few years back I worked in a surf shop. Occasionally we used to get guys come in to buy a high performance surf board. We always asked a lot of questions about their riding style and it sometimes became clear that the guys had never even surfed. One even admitted he wanted one just to strap to the top of his car to make him look cool. We sold it to him of course, he bought some T shirts with big logos on too. Same sort of thing driving an SUV that will never see a spec of mud in it's life. A fashion/posing statement pure and simple.

You seem to have moved the goalposts somewhat.

I thought your gripe was with high performance SUVs ?

If you are not going to do any driving on a track why buy a car with good track dynamics ?

If you are not going to go above the national speed limit why but a car which can do in excess of it ?
