So its the new 6 Series.
At 5cm shorter than current 6, it's not a bigger GT so calling it an 8 series surely is only to justify the £100k price tag instead of however much a normal 6er costs.
Come on BMW, you can do better. A smaller 6 series with alcantara on the A pillars is not an 8 series.

I think it looks good but not great. Odd that they have made the rear legroom so small - suspect this will be a big limiting factor on sales, especially once the new 4 series comes out ( which will probably have more space in the back in that weird Tardis way some BMW's have ). It starts to put it up as competition to a 911 when only a 2+2 and not sure it would win that, with the new car just around the corner....
Most people will probably go for the Grand Coupe version, assuming its looks something along these lines, and I can sort of see that appeal.
Would still take an M5 though.

Probably a lovely car, can't imagine there will be many owners who will end up disappointed with it. My own preference though would still be a Mustang GT350R (which I think looks better and probably sounds better) and £30k or £40k change (from £100k). It's a shame Ford, in their wisdom, decided not to sell them in Europe. The BM looks nice though, I wouldn't say no to one that's for sure.

Too heavy for what? It's a damned great GT not a sports car... its competition are almost certainly all heavier.
Top Gear had the cheek to compare the new 8 to a Conti GT and a DB11 saying for a hundred grand that's what it's competing with. Except those two start at £150k
As for the weight - you're right, the CGT is about 27 tonnes from memory. An S Class Coupe is over 2 tonnes.
The 8 Series is "only" 200kg heavier than a Nissan GTR.
