I wanted one of these for a first car. Reasonable performance, low insurance, centre exit exhaust! What more could you want.

If I bought this, I'd take a few precautions

I've always thought that whenever I've seen one.

Wonder if Shed of the Week will ever feature a Nissan Enema?

Besides, those Arousers are gumpingly ugly and as well as having a rubber-jonny-esque name also look like Beavis. Any family who happened to have a Rav4 would have cars that look like Beavis and Butthead.

SACRILEGE!!!!! You can't say that.....this is the only Pistonheads feature worth reading.....much more relevant (to me) than a million BHP McLaren that only 3 people in this country will buy.

My purpose of being is to read Shed of the Week......thumbup
To be fair I enjoy sotw too, but I skim the Mrs Shed old cobblers & just read the bit about the car. You just can't please everyone or anyone if you go by most of the threads on here rofl!!

Seat's of this era aren't well build in my experience. I'll pass, thanks.

Slk? No, take a seat again, sir. That's an interesting car. Quite fancied one myself. My experience of Mazdas on the other hand...

Had a 1.0l version of this as my first car. God awful thing in boggo spec with an insurance box fitted, but handled well! Had a tendency to rip through spark plugs and coil packs (every 3,000 miles!!!)

Eventually got Cat-D written off by a poor old lass who t-boned me, took the payout and drove it around with a huge dent in the side for another 2,000 miles until the valve stem seals disintegrated and hell broke loose!

Kinda got put off them after that!

Strongly disagree. It's the only thing I make a point of reading. This is a great example, forgotten model that's fun to drive. You don't have to buy it!

Did there used to be a £5K car of the week? Would seem like a good feature to me if same amount of effort was put in as SOTW.
Yes, 5k feature would be good

My wife has had a couple of MX5s, both have lost the battle to rust. She now has a 2002 SLK and hates it. It is a manual one and I have to admit, the gearbox, especially when compared to the MX5's is terrible... She wants another MX5 asap.

Back to shed... Quite like the Arosa. Friend had a Lupo GTI and given they are now victims of a scene tax, this little car looks like a chunk of fun, for a lot less.

Shed of the week is the only article I look out for on Pistonheads. I know it tends to go live between 7:30-9am on a Friday and check it as soon as I can. Quite often, it's something I've little interest in but other times it can throw up a gem.

I know I'm never going to own any of the cars featured but I find it an entertaining read regardless (especially when there is no 'comedy' mention of Mrs Shed).

There's plenty on Pistonheads (and in the world, generally) that I've no interest in. I don't find it difficult to ignore/not read it though.

Owned a Polo GTI of the same era, never owned such an unreliable second hand car.

+1 for the coffee flavour Revels!

Shed should save himself some time every week and just select a Revel for us to debate. Although someone would still say that a Golf R was a better option...

Shame, there are some lemons around. My limited experience of Polo GTIs is a few mates have had them over the years and they didn't have any major dramas other than the BBS wheels corroding and the pedal boxes cracking. I bought one just for the engine but never drove it. .

There have been a few Ibizas & Polos in my family from the 1997-2004 era which have been mostly trouble free(for context, as reliable as you would expect a middle aged car to be) . Me an my brother had a couple of Polo 16vs which were bombproof. The last one was only taken off the road in order to put the engine into a mk2 Polo and then the mk3 shell was turned into a rally car with a 1.6GTI.
