what are they doing to the grill... whats wrong with upright slats?
They were FAR too easy to clean.Am I the only one that finds this (admittedly impressive) progress a bit depressing....?
My first 'proper' Series (of about 12 over the years including 5 flavours of M3) was a 325 Sport which I *think* made do with 171 Horsepower - it felt very special and quick to the 19 year-old me.
Fast forward 2 decades and "the equivalent" model (range-topping non-M car) is making me question the point of buying an E9X M3, which 8 years ago a landmark car that I loved...
I wouldn't mind betting this thing will do mid 40s MPG on a run either..
Progress is great but when a rep mobile with the wick turned up a bit can beat an NA V8 M3 (that went out of production only 6 years ago) in a straight line, it doesn't feel right!

It will probably be north of 45k though.........with no options. So over 50k with a few of those no doubt.
I'm sure it will be an very, very good car, it just looks very bland for the money, and will look exactly the same as a sea of other (not 50k) m-sport 3 series.
On paper, it may be hard to find a better all round car for 50k though, but if its bland, its bland. A bit like its hard to argue against a Golf GTI on paper too, but they are a bit bland too, doesn't really make you want one for some reason. For me anyway.

Auto only
So much for `Drivers cars`
To me, a manual in this car would make no sense. It's a heavy saloon car not a sports car.So much for `Drivers cars`
Even the much smaller 140 didn't feel great with a manual, probably because the man box in that was a bit crap but it felt like an entirely different car with the fantastic zf auto box.

And a gopping instrument display.
Looks like they've tried to continue the kidney grille motif by inverting it in the binnacle. Not a good decision IMO, and I'm a serial BMW owner. However if there's no as-rumoured M3 touring then this will be quite attractive, interesting to drive it against a C53 wagon as they'll both be similar format.
While reading the piece I was thinking this could well be my next car in a few years, then I saw the grill, and I am seriously hoping the digital dials can be changed - otherwise the digital dash looks horrible.
Although the stats are very impressive, it won't be as magical as a M3 v8.
BMW lost there way a bit to me but cars really are getting bloody quick!

What's with the new clocks too?
Half of the arc of the speedo only reads from 0-50mph, the other half from 50 all the way to 160?
That will just be annoying, might as well just have the digital bit.
I hate the new clocks - BMWs always had very clear instruments and now they've just gone all to cock. Half of the arc of the speedo only reads from 0-50mph, the other half from 50 all the way to 160?

Really like the M-diff touch. But if the 330i comes with it, maybe I would prefer that one as an estate and a manual if the handling otherwise is the same. Not interested in the 0-60, more so in a family friendly car that might actually handle like a proper rwd... and probably 200kg less than this one, should help handling too..
