All this love for the V8 M3. Is that the same car that was hailed as a disaster, not a true M car and all the other negative stuff when it was launched, because it wasn’t a straight six. Can’t wait for the next M3 when everyone will lay into it and claim the outgoing model is the best thing ever. That’s despite everyone hating it on launch. Very much like the comments about this new model.

To me, a manual in this car would make no sense. It's a heavy saloon car not a sports car.

Even the much smaller 140 didn't feel great with a manual, probably because the man box in that was a bit crap but it felt like an entirely different car with the fantastic zf auto box.
To me the `Option` of a manual would make perfect sense. Those who wish to change gear themselves can do, while those who would rather not, don't have to.

Can't believe on a site dedicated to car enthusiasts, that I'm the only one wishing it had the option of a manual gearbox !

Cooking as in "cooking wine", ie the boggo stuff you use for cooking not the nice stuff.
Ohhhhh! Always wondered exactly what this rather odd phrase meant..

I'm with you, I'd want a manual box too!

So much for `Drivers cars`

I beg to differ. Both our cars are 1600Kg and both with >200hp. Both firmly tick the "heavy family car" box rather than the "sports car" box.

Manual makes both far more interesting (well that and the engines!)

To me this is something that is the USP of BMW, they market themselves as drivers cars and yet they appear to be doing everything they can to get rid of that USP...and if you are getting rid of everything that makes them interesting then you may as well just go electric. Especially seeing as if you no longer care about the drive train you have things like the Tesla 3 Performance which is quicker round a circuit than the M4.

Other people have a different view that with the ZF it's fast as fk but uninspiring as there is little involvement while the manual changes that to being far more of an involved drive and all the better for it.

The front end is awful, by comparison Mercedes have really nailed their styling in recent years.

As a fast family saloon it won’t be offered with a manual, worldwide there is no demand for one amongst those that actually buy it. And to be honest having spent 3 years and 75,000 miles in a manual 4 series, their manual is rubbish!

Both front and rear bumpers on this are a staggeringly crass piece of design.
Just. Keep. Adding. More. Pointless. Plastic. Bits.

Really like the M-diff touch. But if the 330i comes with it, maybe I would prefer that one as an estate and a manual if the handling otherwise is the same. Not interested in the 0-60, more so in a family friendly car that might actually handle like a proper rwd... and probably 200kg less than this one, should help handling too..
But with a 2.0 4 pot.

Couldn't they have made a RWD only version like in the 2 series?

How much does this thing weigh?

I'm glad that's been cleared up as I didn't get it either!

I don't personally see anything that offensive about this car apart from the fact that I can't stand the design of the exhaust tips. I'm sure I'll get over it at some point.

This hasn't gone well has it? That front end!! Nasty. Fussy. Wrong. Interior as boring as can be expected. And the BMW digital instrument clusters aren't as attractive as others out there either.

When something travels or accelerates at an unusually fast rate.
The Z06 (corvette) is cooking off the line.

Indeed. I love a good engine sound, but I don't need it to actually enjoy driving...

That is what I would have read into it as well. Different strokes for different folks it would appear!

It's not really about the sound, more about the way a BMW straight 6 drives. For me I'd go for the 3.0 and take the xDrive. Although it's sad that people will have to choose between the engine and the dynamics.

Never cook with wine you wouldn't drink. Which means never buy the 2.0L diesel version.

Christ, that's ugly. Rear & profile ok-ish, front disastrous. Is that a bronze coloured grill??

What is going on with that instrument cluster? BMW used to have some of the best gauges out there..

Think I'll stick to my F31 for while by the looks of it..
