RE: Audi R8 Performance: Driven
Discussion
In my mind (although unfortunately not in my world!), a car like this should be able to drive to Spa in comfort, complete 2 days on track and be competitive enough with similar cars so that it is the driver's skill/ level of commitment that makes the difference... and then drive back...added bonus would be that its a bit different (i.e not a Porsche GT product).
looks like the Audi is a winner in my fantasy world!

The car reminds me of my old NSX a fantastic engine it was dead easy to drive and live with got great reviews but then got slated for being too user friendly and a Honda! Yes Senna drove it but had little input but that didn't help it fly out the door. Now the NSX in manual form has escalated and is much sought after....

I've just bought a 2010 manual spider V10 with only 14k miles woman owner for just over 50k. I love it and I actually think it will hold its price pretty well the main depreciation has happened, in fact I've bought it as a keeper i think in time it will actually go up in value!
You fell for that standard line. In truth a male owner who probably ragged the hell out of it. It will likely hold value, but won't go up once the big parts need replacing.
Still, I much prefer it to the latest model.

I’m sure it’s deeply impressive but it just leaves me a bit cold in a way that a mid engined V10 really shouldn’t.
+1You're not alone.. Great engine and soundtrack but it's encased in strange package.. It wears its saloon car family links a bit too boldly for my liking..
I loved the mk1 Audi R8, the original 4.2 version. When it came out it was the first rival to really beat the 991 Carrera 2. Lapping most tracks faster and on one track tests, not that far behind the 911 GT3RS.
Problem is, Porsche moved the 911 on with the 991 and the Mk2 Audi R8 dropped the V8 and just went with the V10 models which obviously compete with the 911 turbo, but struggle to keep up because the R8 is relying on n/a power and is too heavy. I'd like to see Audi bring out a Mk3, lose some weight and stick the V6 from the RS4 into it.
As for deprecation, its not that bad is it relative to rivals. The on road price of the original V8 was around £76K. So £35K 11 years later is 46% retained value. (The cheapest on Autotrader is currently £32500) By comparison you can buy its rival a 2007 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 S £69,900 in 2007) from £25995, so they've dropped a bit more in percentage terms.

Look at my pics the reg belongs to the previous woman owner who's name was in the logbook called Bridget!
Ignore the haters - congrats!!Look at my pics the reg belongs to the previous woman owner who's name was in the logbook called Bridget!
I am just toying with what's next and have been hanging out for a spyder close to 50k - yours looks incredible value for that mileage - well done!

To those suggesting it's just like a TT (I have driven a few of them including the RS) stop talking out of your ass and/or trolling, it makes you seem ill informed, childish or as thick as fk. It is nothing like a TT to drive, massively more special.
.As said, I don't own either, so don't have the experience you have of these cars, but have driven both. If you wore a helmet that blocked out the interior and the engine note, there is not a big enough difference between the R8 and the TT RS for 90% (a complete assumption on my behalf) of even pistonhead drivers to tell the 2 apart when driving. I'm sure on the track ragging the cars silly they are quite distinguishable, but on UK roads, they are too similar to warrant a price 3 times that of a TT RS. Calling poeple thick as f**k has made you look more childish than those you think are ill informed.

However putting the dickwad comments to one side, it isn't special enough for the price, engine aside and has sadly inherited many of the Audi traits we all love (I mean loathe) such as numb steering, over assisted brakes and a general competence without event. Sure all the tech is nice have have, the systems are clever and it is a nice place to be. But as has been said you sit on it not in it (mine is the same) and though you get used to that take a 570S out or GT3, a car a really miss and you realise how Audi still doesn't get immersion.
.You've basically just agreed with the so called dickwad comments yourself.
The A1 TFSi comment I'm sure was a touch too far, but most people get the point with Audi's,

Why not just get a TT?
What, the 620 bhp V10 mid-engined TT? Sure, get one of those. They all drive the same anyway. You will get 90% of the experience in an A1 TFSI.

I've contemplated this, but I think Audi should do something completely different. I say I5 from the TTRS and electrify/hybrid the front axle is my suggestion though.Granted it might not be as exotic with an in line 5 but it has a strong heritage with Audi and I think much more exotic than a V6.
