I thought the convertible is a 2 seater?

"Roadster" version is not though as they removed both back seats.

The i8 could just about be it, but it does not really have the same "mission" does it really?

Love the Z8, they have climbed hugely in recent years and I do hold a special place for the 507.

One of my favourite three BMW's, along with the fabulous 327, and the E9 3.0CSL.

I think they look fantastic - but if I had had the right Euromillions numbers I'd have bought the ex-John Surtees one! laugh

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I like the Z4 Coupe! rolleyes

Few things - agree, the Z8 takes all its inspiration from the 507 and all the better for it. I actually think it's slightly better looking and due to being deliberately sparse, should age just well.

In regards to "the Z4 is the best they can do" - it's not really.
The Z4 is a 3 series roadster and priced thereat.

The 507 and Z8 were both top end halo models that, in comparison to the range at the time, cost a shed load more.
BMW haven't really had this in their range at all since the Z8
they've had uber priced M6's and soon the new 8, but not 2 seat roadster at that end of the spectrum.
Z4 is on a bespoke (albeit shared with Toyota) platform, it isn't a re-skinned 3'er. Will share engines but all Bimmers do that.

Certainly not a patch on this 507 for 'beauty' but modern BMW's don't seem to go for that, rather aiming for 'muscular purposefulness' IMO. I quite like that actually.

I realise I'm going to be in the minority here, but the styling leaves me cold - looks like a posh Triumph Spitfire. Much prefer the AC Ace / Cobra as a contemporary design.

Each to their own of course wink
Hard choice - I love both (Cobra 289 though, not so much for the 427!)
