Those seats are one of the best I've ever sat in. I've always liked these and my Dad's mate had one, the prices of old Ford's are off the scale. My Dad had a white XR3 for a few years too. I have fond memories of the Mk3 Escort and I had the lowly 1.3L for a bit.
Yeah, the seats were fantastic Many a great trip to the coast in convoy with my friend’s RS over Welsh roads along with 205s and 323i - when a couple of others trumped him by going 205 1.6 to 1.9 Gti he evened up the odds by getting a S1 RS Turbo - a lot quicker than 15bho extra would suggest!

I only ever drove an XR3i, were these that much different ?
Lots of little details,as the article says, for homologation for rallying, although it had more success on the race track, winning BTCC class, never did much on the rally scene.I have not owned many cars in my life but one of the most memorable was my RS which was my third car and owned it from 1985 to 1991. Cost me 6k which was more than a year's salary as a 23 year old. Had to get it insured in my Dad's name. I remember at the time the 15" rims seemed so massive and the 50 profile tyres like elastic bands. As for the exhaust diameter, well that was a drainpipe. How times have changed! Not sure if just my driving but were they a bit twitchy in the wet? I lost the rear of the car twice on wet corners but amazingly did not hit anything either time.
A friend of mine at the time had an XR3i and he used to lust after the RS.
Couple of pics of mine, even put a towbar on it to tow a friend's speedboat to Loch Lomond. I knew prices were rising but some of these figures are incredible.
Rather poor images, they are pictures of pictures.

I have to say, I'd have wanted the Manta. Always liked them back then (and now). Many a great trip to the coast in convoy with my friend’s RS over Welsh roads along with 205s and 323i - when a couple of others trumped him by going 205 1.6 to 1.9 Gti he evened up the odds by getting a S1 RS Turbo - a lot quicker than 15bho extra would suggest!
Worst. Brakes. Ever.
They were engineered as a LHD car so the RHD cars had a complex link across the bulkhead to the left-mounted servo which was far too flexible. Still, a great looking car and, as mentioned, maybe the best seats ever fitted to a Ford.
KGF are always massively priced and their prose makes my teeth itch.
