Great engines slurp oil. Period.
Yes, I was thinking that - lots of Alfa and BMW engines can do less miles than 1500 miles per litre.

M5, E46 330, twin Spark

Prefer the earlier shape Prelude but this is a nice colour

Call that rust...pah.! It’s no exageration to say I used to find a little bit more with each wash (and they were frequent). From a veteran of 2 Alfasuds. Nice shed though, and well worth some expenditure I’d say.
Also the rust issue generally is not entirely licked. It’s better hidden, external panels are either plastic or clad in plastic and the metal on display galvanised and better painted. However it’s still a predominantly metal structure used with various degrees of mercy in salty British winters. The mot history of some shows ‘ serious weakening of the structure within x of suspension pick up points’ and such phrases. Although many are well into the second decade before this precursor to demise is uttered or written. Interesting that some brands fare a lot better than others, and purchase price when new has little bearing.

I think SOTW is becoming telepathic - a few weeks in a row now, I have been looking at the same model of cars shed has had featured.

Was only looking at a grey one of these on eBay yesterday, and this one is a bargain in comparison.

Remember having an E34 535i Sport around 13 years ago, and one of these 2.2i VTEC coupes raced me and left me quite far behind!

Great character to the VTEC engines and this is not going to get any cheaper.

Hate the interiors on Jap cars of this era - so boring and dull, feel cheap and plastic.

Great SOTW again!

Rust? You call that rust?
I had 2 of the mk1 preludes. The air didn't even have to be moist for them to rust. They ended up with nothing left to attach patches to.
See how many mk1s are left, that's proper rust, complete extinction of them.

Rusty pfffftt

Same! Possibly because Jalopnik just ran a piece on the Prelude.

The design has aged fantastically, I must say. Great shed.

Thank you for reminding me that I should never have sold my Red Top (also Supermarine Blue with Motegis) and ought to have got another garage instead.

LJKS was right, of course.

Sounded great with an induction kit and felt a lot quicker than it was.
Best thing about it was that it was under the radar for insurance, the 2.2 cost less than a 1.4 MG ZR to insure!

Is that the one Rod Birley used to race?

Wow, I was never a fan of these when they came out first. But seeing this now - that is a helluva handsome car! Age has most definitely been kind to it, and that is an absolute bargain of a price - worth every penny and more if you ask me (ok, maybe not more, as you'll need that to sort out the body!). Top shed - if I was in the market, I'd nab this in a heartbeat.
I was about to say exactly the same thing. I loved the previous model, and was disappointed when this one came out, but it looks great 20 years later.

Yes , then raced by Peter Thurston who I worked for at the time , it then went to the channel Islands.
A fabulous piece of kit at the time .

I thought my 2.2 vti was a great car. The only thing I didn't like was the limited driver legroom. Mine didn't use much oil either!
At this throwaway amount of cash then it's well worth a punt.

Why have I always had a soft spot for Preludes? A glitch in the right/wrong matrix, perhaps? I do wish Honda would revisit this recipe, the thought of a quirky coupé with Civic Type R running gear under less vomit-inducing metal has me drooling. Nice Setright reference too, a prince among motoring writers.

I hated the looks of these after the previous generation, but time has been very kind, and I quite like it now.

Certainly tempting having a vtec at this price. It's an itch I've yet to scratch.

Best shed ever? To my eyes, it is. Always, always lusted after one of these (also being of the Gran Turismo generation).

Indeed I'd been toying with the idea of a FWD track hack for the winter and at this money this looks sensational. You won't see many others at track days I wouldn't have thought.

I had a 4th Gen VTi back in the day.

In my lottery-win garage, I'd definitely have a restored example.

It's really such a shame that Honda won't properly rustproof their cars. The engines are generally so smooth and nice to drive. I had three CRVs and they were charming, although underpowered.

But they all rotted like hell.

I had an old Accord as a garage courtesy car once as well. Must have been kicking on for 20 years old. Although it looked ancient, it drove perfectly. Absolutely perfectly. For want of rust protection they end up being scrapped early and / or reviled. That's a genuine shame.

One arch in 22 years doesnt seem so bad, suppose it depends on what lies beneath but that is a pretty old car.
