The Steigenberger Super Cup races were always the highlight of the Silverstone festival in the 1990s. Much more dramatic than the historic F1 grids. I'll never forget sitting in the grandstand on the (old) start/finish straight as the grid came round on a rolling start and being blown away by the crescendo of noise as the drivers opened the taps. It was the first time I could actually "see" acceleration if that makes any sense!

Charlie Agg's orange Trojan M8Fs were usually front-runners, but the crazy 8 litre BRM P154 of Jost Kalisch turned up one year and was even quicker!

Angry machines! From the videos it looks likely they can accelerate faster than they can brake, if you know what I mean i.e. shorts bursts of acceleration and a comparatively long time spent on the brakes.

Fabulously fast and dangerous machines..... from a massively dangerous era.

Massive respect to the drivers who drove them back in the day, and those that drive them today.

A Hilborn stack-injected big block all-aluminium Chevy is proper engine.
